After Lion Install: Spotlight indexing crashes repeatedly, nothing helps

Back up all your information or the stuff you really really don't want to loose on a new hard drive and put that aside for now.

after that:

when you verified and repaired, did you get errors?

did you try reinstalling lion? hold CMD R when rebooting you'll be taken to the recovery partition. There you should verify your disks and permission and repair them (disk utility in recovery partition).

after that, reinstall lion.

I do this from time to time with Clean My Mac.

thought i had the same problem and the onyx thing worked for a day, but then back to another kernel panic.

bad ram is the culprit here.... anyone with the same problem, test ram first and maybe save some trouble!

I thought i was going insane..spotlight kept re-indexing on every start up (10.7.3, 2012 macbook pro) and never completed the index hence i was unable to use spotlight.

This is the only solution that has worked. Thanks alot, its running flawlessly now

I'm also having this issue.

I have tried the onyx fix, which only works temporarily... maybe a day.

I have also tried reinstalling Lion from recovery mode, but have not tried a completely fresh install.

I had dropbox and spideroak running, but turned them off just in case... no solution there.

I changed spotlight to only index my user folder, but this doesn't help.

I have booted up in single user mode and checked my RAM through several cycles with memtest. All good.

I've repaired the disk and privileges.

Basically nothing helps.

I'm running an iMac 7,1. Someone at my work (support desk) tells me he's read somewhere that there may be hardware issues between Lion and imac 7,1 and spotlight.... I can't seem to recall exactly when this problem started, but I don't think it was at the time I installed Lion, but was definitely only since installing Lion.

I suppose I should try a fresh install... just can't be f@#$d really. **** you Apple! I liked you better when you were smaller. Instead of giving all your cash back to shareholders, why don't you spend it ironing out the kinks, and giving people a flawless user experience.
