icloud calendar invite lotus notes

Ever since I migrated from MobileMe to iCloud last week, my calendar invites from both my iPhone and my iMac are no longer readable by Lotus Notes (my wife). This is, obviously, a big problem!

I searched the Google-verse and do not see any other mention of this.

Am I alone?

I just added this via iCal feedback (http://www.apple.com/feedback/ical.html):

Ever since I switched from MobileMe to iCloud, my calendar invitations can no longer be ACCEPTED by Lotus Notes or MS Outlook.

With MobileMe, it was not straightforward (the receiver sometimes had to open the attached ICS file), but it was workable. Now, neither the ACCEPT in the email nor the attached ICS file do anything.

(Actually, pressing ACCEPT in the email opens a browser that brings the user to iCloud's web site).

Please help me with a workaround or a fix.

P.S. Even things like http://www.ehow.com/how_5887667_send-ical-invites-outlook.html do not work in Lion...

I decided to open a real problem, so I went to Support.Apple.com and within a few short clicks, Apple called me.

I accidentally hung up on them, and they called back in 2 minutes.

I then waited in the queue for a few short minutes. The person who answered, understood my problem and transferred me to the iCal department where I waited another 15 minutes.

The iCal department then did some research for 10 minutes, and came back to tell me that, unfortunately, iCal is working / not broken. I disagreed, saying that this is my business computer and not being able to send meeting invites to anyone not using a MAC is insane.

The support guy suggested I tell the developers directly, via http://www.apple.com/feedback/ical.html.

I already did that.

He suggested that you all do to. The more people who feedback, the faster we'll get a fix!

I sent a test calendar entry from my son's MacBook Pro. He has the same Lion version, but did not upgrade to iCloud. That invite worked (the way mine used to before the iCloud upgrade). Both Outlook and Notes were able to open the attached ICS file and add my invitation to their calendar. This proves that it's iCloud.

Now, if Apple would just acknowledge / fix this... 😕

I've tried many suggestions, yet all attempts on my end (iMac and/or iPhone) still use the underlying iCloud infrastructure and still send the Outlook/Notes user to iCloud.com

I did think of a work-around: I created a new Calendar on my Mac and send all invitations to the outside world thru that calendar. That worked for both my Outlook colleagues and my Notes colleagues. It's not perfect. They still have to open the attached ICS file, but at least the data makes it to their calendars. It took a while, but I'm now back to where I was before iCloud.

OK, so this seemed to work for me:

  1. In Lotus Notes, open the e-mail containing the invite from iCal.
  2. Click the link which says, "See replies..."
  3. In the page which loads containing the iCal/iCloud meeting request details, click, "Download (.ics)".
  4. Open the resulting .ICS file with Notes.
  5. A dialog box should pop up asking, "What do you want to do with xxxxxx.ics?" Choose to "Import these entries into your personal calendar."
  6. Click OK in the next dialog box.
  7. You should get a message indicating that you "imported the calendar into your Lotus Notes calendar." (You may get a warning asking whether or not you'd like to overwrite an already-existing duplicate entry - you should be fine to say "Yes" to this.)

Hope this helps some of you folks out there! It's been really annoying for me, and this simple workaround has really helped!

"Forced"? hehe. I am the administrator for Lotus Notes for 2200 users. Much rather use Notes than Outlook... <smile>

One way I have found to sync up the Mac and Lotus Notes is through Google Calendars. I believe you can publish up to Google and get a piece of software (I think it is called GooSync or something) that will sync Google Calendars with Notes.

There is also a piece of software which will allow you to get your Notes calendar on your iDevice (iPad, iPhone) made by IBM called Traveler which your Domino Admin would have to install. It allows the iDevice to connect to the Traveler server which in turn gets your calendar and mail onto your iPhone/iPad.

Here is a conversation on the subject of syncing: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2346802?start=0&tstart=0

Notes has a feature to view external calendars, including Google and iCalendar feeds. Instead of a full two-way sync, you could view the iCloud events on the same view as the Notes events.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get it to view an iCalendar feed without setting the iCloud calendar to Public visibility. Notes includes fields to supply user/pw, but something isn't working.

Hope it helps
