Serial Number Works for Final Cut Express but not Compressor

When I enter the product serial number I used for Final Cut Express to activate Compressor, a message comes up which says, "The serial number you entered is not valid." I literally copied and pasted the same serial number to activate both programs, and it works for FCE, but not for the Compressor application that came with it. I also deleted the system IDs in the Library/Application Support/ProApps folder before I tried activating both programs.

Is Compressor part of the Final Cut Express package, or do I need to buy it separately? It came with FCE, but do I have to buy a serial number? Why would Apple include Compressor on the CD if I can't use it?

If you have some Pro audio apps on your Mac it's possible Compressor is on your system.

Compressor as found in Final Cut has never been part of FCE.

Refer to David's comments about buying seperately.

The new one is recommended for FCP X and FCP X is a whole new deal compared to FCE.
