why can't i burn mp3 cd's from purchased music on itunes?

I've converted each song in a playlist to mp3, per the itunes instructions. And yet when I try to burn a cd of these mp3 songs it won't let me. I've purchased these songs from itunes. I don't want to burn WAV format; I want to burn mp3 format. What am I doing wrong?

When you use iTunes to convert format, it creates a new file in the new format, and leaves the original in place.

If you want the old version out of the playlist and the new version in, then you have to manually do so. Otherwise the old version remains in the playlist.

Before you burn the MP3 CD, look at the Kind column in your playlist. (If you do not see "Kind," enable it by going to View > View Options.) Make sure they all say "MPEG audio file," which indicates MP3. Once you are sure they are all MP3s, you can burn the MP3 CD.

Thank you for your reply. I tried what you said, but it did not work. I pulled up the play list of my purchased itunes songs that I had converted to mp3. Then I clicked on View, View options, and added "Kind". But under each listing of my songs, the view catagory says, "Purchased AAC audio file". I then thought maybe itunes "forgot" that I had created an mp3 version for each of these songs so I converted a few of the songs again. Under view it still says "Purchased AAC audio file". Keep in mind that this playlist only has the songs on it that can in fact be converted to mp3. (A lot of the songs I bought would not in fact convert; I would get a pop- up that would say they were protected in a different forma)t. So this list I'm talking about is just the songs that I did in fact convert to mp3. Why would itunes even give me that option if I can't then burn the mp3's to a cd. How do I get these songs to say "mpeg audio file" rather than "purchased AAC audio file" so I can burn the playlist to a cd? Thanks again. 🙂

Meanirene, You skipped an important step.

You can convert a Purchased AAC to MP3 by following these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550

After you do this, your library will have two versions of the song, the original in AAC and the new MP3.

Now you need to find the new MP3. The easiest way is to sort your Music library by Date Added, and your new MP3 will be at the top, as it is the newest thing.

Once you find it, add it to the playlist, and remove the old AAC file.

Do this for each track until the whole playlist is MP3, then you are ready to burn the MP3 CD.
