Notes on iCloud.com

The way Apple handles Notes across OS/devices is inconsistent.

I have an iPhone4 (iOS 5) and an iMac (Lion 10.7.2): in iOS Notes is an application; in OS X Notes is part of the Mail app - I prefer the former, but after several years I'm used to it.

Along comes iCloud and I'm pretty much looking forward to this ... but wait: in iCloud.com, Notes are again part of the Mail app, but using this app I can't edit a Note!

a Note behaves like an Email messge: it is basically an Email item with a From and a To attribute, and I presume the only way I can edit it is to Reply to it!

IOS Notes: good

OS X Notes: I'm used to

iCloud.com Notes: just aren't Notes!

Am I missing something: is there a setting somewhere which makes Notes in iCloud.com really *be* just Notes?

Many thanks, Andrew

😐 I agree with you..Andrew.

I don't understand why not build Notes as a single section in iCloud. For me, Notes is more useful and convinent than Reminders.

For example, I am writing an paper and searching some reference on PC and if I find something useful, I want to copy them to someplace then sync to iPhone, so that I can review and edit them on my way to school..

For I longtime, I use Springpad, when I hear iCloud I expected that finally I can edit the Notes on PC & iPad & iPhone, keeping them in synchronization all the time with a build in Apple service. All I found is disappoitment.

All I want to say is: If just some text or short words to sync, why makes it necessary to set the time and date and alarm and blablabla??

I have to agree on this. All this while my notes is syncing with my MacBook. Recently I transfered all my dates iPhone notes to his google account since he don't use any mac and I just want to make his transition from iOS to Android all over the air (OTA). I noticed that google handle notes in email and I can't edit it. So I decided to try iCloud and to my dissapointment it also handle the same eay as google handling it... Hope Apple can make this part of iCloud apps so notes can be more useful.

Maybe I missed it, but why isn't there a standalone Notes app that will sync with iCloud? I don't want to have to go to the iCloud web site, and I HATE using the OS X desktop Mail app for this - I don't like it as an app at all for mail or notes.

Is there a simple, free OS X desktop app that will sync with iCloud and let me create and edit notes that will then sync with all my iCloud devices?

I have a use-case and a request:

My request is this: I don't care how Notes are represented (app, email, whatever) - just make them editable from a web interface (Mac, PC, Linux, etc).

My use-case: Like most people, I'm increasingly floating around between many devices. As an IT consultant, this is especially true; I have multiple laptops from multiple clients; 2 macs and 1 PC, 3 desktop machines (all PC), iphone, ipad, and then my wife's macbook air, iphone, & ipad.

I use Google Docs to store information that I need to access from anywhere. With iCloud Notes, I was impressed with the added simplicity of the interface and transparency of syncing. Google Docs are much more feature-rich, but for my needs, that isn't a requirement. Goolge Docs on the iPhone are great, allow editing in a great mobile-aware UI... but require a login/password before use (being really web-based, not a true app) - this is a huge hassle, especially since I have many characters in my email/password.

Liking the iCloud simplicity and transparency better, I started transitioning work from Google Docs to iCloud... until I realize that I can't edit my Notes on 2/3 of the devices I use. So I'll likely be (reluctantly) moving it back to Google Docs. Maybe I'll go pester Google forums to see if they'll make iPhone / iPad integration easier, via a real App that stores credentials. I'd be happy with that as well.

Thanks~!

Stephen

To save notes in iCloud write yourself an email in the iCloud webapp. Instead of sending hit the "SAVE" button. This will send your message into the draft folder. Go to the draft folder. You'll see your message there. Next go to the folder with an down arrow icon on the left of the menu bar. Move to Notes. Now your note should be in the Notes folder. I hope this helps. It's not ideal but it works.

Enough of this nonsense about workarounds: the new version of iCloud.com has fixed it!

The Notes web app now has a better UI than the Notes.app in OSX

Hoo-rah!

P.S. just found the first stupid feature: whilst the Notes web app in iCloud.com is just as I would have wanted, for some reason Notes still also exists within the Mail web app.

Is Apple setting-out to confuse people more than appear already to be confused by iCloud? Does anyone beta-test this stuff

(I know the answer is Yes, but why is this relic of Notes still in the Mail web app?)
