Q: Safari loading old pages?

Anyone else noticing Safari opening old pages on forums? While visiting several of my daily forums today, I noticed it loading pages that were from my visits last night or yesterday. I'm pretty sure I cleared my history last night, so it must be reading some invalid cookie data?

If you want to look for this, pay attention to forum pages that load possibly after you post. I noticed this twice on two different forums.

Anyone else having this happen?

I am experiencing the same problem on my MacBook Pro. Running Lion 10.7.2, Safari 5.1.1.

After reading a post on HuffPost, using the back arrow brings me to a page that is 4-5 days old. Refresh fixes it, but it is really becoming annoying. I have cleared the cache, several times, no fix. I deleted all the cookies related to HuffPost (where I am observing this bug) but no fix. I am hesitant to delete all my cookies, as I do a lot of banking/research online and this would delete all stored passwords, login info, etc.

I'd greatly appreciate a fix or aknowledgement from Apple on this.

I have the same issue with iOS5 on iPad 1, reported in the other thread:

Make sure you report the problem to Apple:

Same thing is happening to me. It is happening since I migrated to ios5. I have cleared the cache and history but the problem continues after safari caches a new copy of the web page. Specifically, The problem occurs when viewing a web page, then clicking on a link and then using the back button to go back to the main page. The back button takes you back to the page in the cache and not an updated copy. Clearing the cache only worked for a day or so.

This has been going on since I bought my iPad 1 and many firmware versions before iOS 5.

I've tried clearing caches and all the other regular tricks and nothing that i've tried or read about has fixed this ongoing problem. Apple needs to look into this and see if they can fix the problem in iOS 5.1.

I have not seen this problem on my iPad 2 with iOS 5 but I offer this workaround, at least until a fix is released or found.

Instead of just clicking a link then using the back button to return to the original page, open the link in a new tab. Then when you are finished reading the article close the tab. I often go through a forum or list of articles and open several tabs at the same time. Then, when I'm finished with an article or post, I close that tab. Eventually, if I have a bunch of tabs open, I'll get back to the original page.

On an iPad 2 running iOS 5 you open a link in a new tab by using a tap and hold gesture. After a short hold on the link you'll get a list of options:

Open - opens the link in the same tab, i.e. replaces the content of the tab with the contents at the link.

Open in a new tab - opens the link in a new tab.

Add to reading list - adds the link to the reading list section of the History icon.

Copy - copies the link so you can paste it in a message ,email or browser address section.

Still no fix or update to iOS from Apple.  With the battery problem, they have really screwed up on this.  I read all the post and while you can work around the issue, kind of silly not being able to use the back button.  First time, I have been disappointed in Apple.  They are starting to lose me.   I pay a premium price for Apple products and expect a premium experience.  Feels more like a Windows experience....at least IE works correctly.

This has happened to me on Safari since Safari 5, on my iMac (either Snow Leopard or Lion), on my office Windows PC, and on my iPad. So it's a cross-platform issue, not just an issue on one platform. It has been going on for months.

And now; the back button is OK!

It has been fine for a few days.

Strange... No relevant updates (as far as I know). The only thing I can think of, is that I've restarted my Mac Mini a few times in order to get SMB file sharing under Lion to work. (SMB still doesn't work, but the back button is fine.)

iPad 1 been having this issue since the 5.0 update. Did a restore on it the other day and it did not help. This is very annoying. I am also having an issue with Safari just randomly closing and e-mail will sometimes close the first time I try and launch it. I suspect that Apple will not say anything about it but hopefuly it wil "fix itself" with the next roll out.

    I have similar problems too.

On my iPad1, that i bought just before iPad2 was launched, I get older front pages on newspapers etc when I hit the back button. And it's slow.. I've cleared history and cookies many times, but Apple needs to tell me how often i manually must do this to get Safari to work as it is supposed to(if they think that the solutin should be so). I won' let them make me find out the system in this bug. Can't believe how long it takes to get a fix on this!! Been like this for months. Does Apple not think I'm patient enough?

And then the crashes... Every session Safari crashes 2-3 times..

I mean, web browsing is a main feature for iPad, not?

I'm seriously loosing faith in Apple. I probably wont let Apple get into my "TV world" if they are going to launch a TV solution in 2012 because of this. I currently have Apple products all around me, but It seems that the only solution to problems is to buy brand new products as soon as they are launched, otherwise you're outdated. I speak with experience. This does not coincide with my values. Apple feels outdated of a sudden.

Same problem here. Since rel 5 upgrade I've had nothing but problems with Safari on my IPAD.  Every time I use the back button I get a page that's up to several days old.  Using the refresh is a pain.  Clearing data creates a lot of work.

    Other Safari problems -

Videos suddenly stop playing and stutter, like an old skipping record.

On some videos you get audio and no video, just a black screen.

Can't watch streaming live video broadcasts on sites like CNN because they use Adobe.

Apple doesn't support WMV files and the WMV app is frequently not allowed when a WMV file is encountered.

I've given up and gone back to my PC.  How can anyone release garbage like this?  This is my first Apple device and probably my last.

    Safari is really bad.

The video issue also applies to my problems. Many of the crashes, but not all, seems to be caused by video issues. But again.., Apple knows very well what is the problem. I won't put my sence into their non-sence to understand the real nature of it. They have to speak out and let us know.

Until now, this has actually been ok with me when they end up fixing problems within a certain period of time. But now my patience is stretched far to long.. I think that there's so, so many users with the same problems not speaking out too.

May be I'm slow, having Apple as my only computer and phone solution for ten years (iPhone only since it came out though).

Shouldn't have bought that iPhone 4s!

Maybe times are about to change for Apple users like me?

Well..... I got up this morning and decided to try my IPad while I was sitting here having my coffee.   Now the back button is working!!

Nothing was changed on my end.  Didn't load any new software or updates, didn't change any settings, just picked it up and it was working.  Unbelievable.   Just hope it continues to work.

Can't say if any of the video issues are also fixed since I haven't had the opportunity to try them yet.

    Good for you!

I don't know if it works better or not for me yet. But I still get wrong photos connected to the articles in newspapers. When I refresh, the right photo pops up again. Weird.
