iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing. Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue? I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

Is it possible to upgrade modem firmware to the one in 5.1 beta 3, yet keep the rest as iOS 5.0.1.?Maybe by upgrading just the modem firmware will solve calls problems yet keeping the benefits of the 5.0.1. Maybe it can be done with custom firmware.

Further, I upgraded to 5.1 b3. Every thing wa fine. When going back to 5.0.1 things were good till I installed Buber and made the first cover call. Then the problem stays. Could this have to something with the problem?

I've been using beta3 for several weeks & have not faced with the problem you claimed. perhaps you should do a clean re-install.. OR you might have downloaded & installed a corrupted firmware.

omidi

IOS 5.1 Beta 3 has a bug about Keyboad, when you go back to home screen from Spotlight search the keyboard dos not disapear, and it is still on the screen

but the OCNA has been fixed.

Same problem. Just got my iPhone last night through Telus in Canada.

No handset sound on outgoing calls. It's not random or anything like that. Every call I make has this problem. Quickly figured out the speakerphone workaround, but I'm not impressed.

Talked to Telus tech support and they said I'd have to bring it into the store, that I only get 3 total repairs, and that they very likely would not replace the phone.

So, screw that. Going to deal with Apple directly and get a replacement, just in case.

Dear, I speak of Brazil. I have a 32GB iphone 4S.
I'm disappointed, I spent a fortune on iphone 4S, my first iphone and theconnection problem. Well, as you can see the link the problem is known. Only it is not known for apple. Regrettable. Trick does not count. As a player at this leveldoes not link properly.
I did not find any topics here in the forum talking about the problem in 4S. I think we should open a topic. Someone took the carrier? All these problems are or only some? Solution without any trick. I've done catering and nothing. Have alsoreseted and nothing.
If this keeps up (I hope that chance concerte)'ll call apple and direct me where Ibought, I know I have a headache. With a price this could not have a headache.

Since it's obvious there are tens of thousands of people facing the same problem, perhaps we should start writing serial numbers (or part of it) of our iPhones 4S? I mean, there must be some common denominator between our phones, which would help quickly identify the ones facing OCNA.

Once we know the easy way to quickly identify phone with the problems then all matching the criteria could go for replacement?

I mean, this should have been done by Apple already, but since we're not getting appropriate support nor attention then I guess it's time (after 4 months) to start taking doing something serious about this.

Is someone following this thread able to identify few phones facing the same problem? Is there anything that is common between them?

For now we know:

1. iPhone 4s ONLY

2. iOS 5.0.1 ONLY

3. 16GB/32GB/64GB ALL affected

4. black/white ALL affected

5. operator RANDOM/ALL

6. country RANDOM/ALL

BTW, easy way to reproduce the problem on my phone. Turn off bluetooth, turn on bluetooth, try to make a call -> OCNA problem replicable 100% on my phone

Has anyone found any patterns apart from the above mentioned 6?

Thanks,

M

Thanks Kinst, this is really excellent info ... much appreciated.

So here is current/updated list symptoms:

Symptoms v0.02

==

0. Original Apple dialer ONLY (can someone also confirm this)

1. iPhone 4s AND iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1

2. iOS 5.0.1 mostly, but there are some reports for 5.0 and 5.1b3

3. 16GB/32GB/64GB ALL affected

4. black/white ALL affected

5. operator RANDOM/ALL

6. country RANDOM/ALL

===

Repro Steps:

===

Disable/Enable bluetooth, try to make a call.

Workaround:

===

Second call/ speaker on-off MAY help (this doesn't work always)

Disabling Siri and Bluetooth will help to face the symptoms less frequently

Can we make a poll on this Forum? This would help get to the common criteria much faster?

Disabling Siri and Bluetooth will help to face the symptoms less frequently
=== Who care about "less frequently"? Only MISSING matter. I never had SIRI or BT on but gog OCNA on my first 2 iPhones.

I have the OCNA issue too with an iPhone 4S 64GB white. The iPhone was bought in UK. From the serial number it was made in China, Chengdu, Foxxcon, in the 45 week (November) of the 2011.

My family have another two iPhone 4S too, but these aren't affected by OCNA.

From the serial numbers, one in black with 32GB was made in China, Chengdu, Foxxcon in the 48 week (december) of 2011, the other one in white with 64GB was made in China, Chengdu, Foxxcon, in the 42 week (October) of the 2011.

I live in Italy and I use Vodafone.it as carrier. I tried to restore the iPhone, but it doesn't work. Bluetooth and SIRI are disable. Only if I active speaker on-off I can make ALL calls.

I'll try to use IOS 5.1 b3 to see if it work for me.
