Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

I am having the same problem. The speakerphone comes on without touching it as soon as the call connects. my audio cannot be heard. This is on about 70% of the calls. I have tried everything I have seen on this thread. No change. Finally spoke to Apple Support tonight. They said that IOS 5.0.1 was the fix. I have had the phone since Monday....so it is 5.0.1. I told the tech that it did not help and it looked like it did not solve the problem for a lot of people. He then recommended all the things everyone has tried.....NO help.

i have the same problem. no audio when i do outgoing calls. also, if my earphones connected to my 4s and make a call, the voice just goes to the loudspeaker on the phone not on the earphones even if you tap the speaker button, still on speaker phone.

I had 2 with 5.0.1 same issue as in this thread.

Got a replacement from Apple that is on 5.0 and it works perfect.

Well, I ain't complaining, but it's now 10 days with my third 4s and no sign of the problem. My first two had the classic problems in this thread, the speakerphone kicking in and not being abkle to be turned off, but that problem went away after several trieds (but came back after any reset or restore) and the "no audio" from the earpiece when placing a call about 20% of my calls placed (audio works after toggling the speakerphone).

What makes this even odder to me is that the serial number of this phone differs from the first two by just three middle characters (the 5th, 6th and 7th character) and the third was bought from a different place 70 miles apart from where the first two were purchased.

All three began with C39GN, then differed in three characters and then ended with the same final four characters.

So i'm either very lucky with this third 4s or I'll be one of those where the problem creeps up after a few weeks (and after the time I can return for a full refund).

    Keeping my fingers crossed,

    Mike

Exchanged mine at Radio Shack. They were very nice and knew about the problem. Said dust know if hardware or software and did not matter to them. New phone works fine - no problems and been using it since Tuesday.

So this small fraction of people are just screwed in their eyes?  BTW, there are several other threads about these same issues... just under different categories.  I returned my phone for a replacement and am having no other problems, however, Apple has lost my respect and trust.

My phone used to do this at least 2 out 10 times. I took the plunge today and installed 5.1 and have been without the problem since 5 pm. It is now 2:40 am and I have not been able to replicate it since upgrading to 5.1. I have been calling out with more continuity just to try and replicate it but with no success. I did not swap the phone because I seem to have a pretty good screen at this point an did not want to risk it. I am sure this is just a software bug as there is no reason why it would work sometimes and most of the time it would. Something within he antennae either works or it doesn't. I also did not do a full restore, I did an upgrade.

    I've been woking 5 days on 5.1 beta. I haven't problems with audio yet. 100% it's a software bug.
