Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

If you are just regular user, than noway - only wait for final release. The 5.1 beta is for OS developers only for testing.

Maybe the guys  from  Apple are curious to see how many problems are with Iphone 4s : “Best product we ever designed”,  and then will take action !

I paid a lot of many on my and I am very disappointed !!!!!!!!

Just got my iPhone replaced and everything works fine.

My previous phone has a serial number beginning with DNPG and my new one has C39G.

One different thing I noticed about the new phone is that the antenna separator (black line on the metal) is placed differently. On the old one, it was located above the front facing camera, whereas the new one has it on the side near the silent switch/button.

Same problem with my 4s 32G.  Happens on 40-50% of calls.  I found that the initial call has no ring, if I try again immediatly  I can get a ring.  Some calls drop in the middle of a call. My screen will go black and I have to tap the screen to end the call.  New sim card did nothing to correct any of this.  Carrier is At &T, I'll be making the trek to the nearest Apple store.

Well, so far so good.  Replaced phone, and started as a new phone (rather than restore) and have not had a reoccurance of what was otherwise a high frequency issue.

I've had the exact same problem as well ...Telus carrier in Canada !! I've gone through 2 Iphone 4S 16GB in the last 5 days & both had the same issue !! Also my roomate who has the Iphone 4 16GB recently had the same issue as well on his phone ... It has to be a software issue apple is not revealing to its customers !! I spent 2hrs on the phone today trying to get it resolved and everytime I was told to either do a hard restart or restore to factory settings or turn bluetooth off ( it was never on, nor do i use one) I thought the issue had been resolved after not backing anything up and only syncing one thing at a time as I was told to do but after i got off my 2hr call, it went back to not working!! Apple had better come up with a patch soon to fix this, let alone acknowledge that there is an issue with it, they acted like they've never heard of the problem before when I called.

This is a little rediculous.  Why are we having these issues?  These are $600.00+ phones, we should be able to scuba dive with them and call Santa!  I had AT&T for two years, never had any issues with service, I had the iPhone 3 for two years with not issues.  I switched to Sprint like three weeks ago and upgraded my phone to the 4s 16GB.  It took sprint forever to port it all over and switch numbers to our old AT&T numbers.  Anyway, I thought this audio issue was a service issue, after reading all these posts it seems like it is a software problem.  I get calls to my phone all the time and I cannot hear anyone when I answer it.  I have four phones on my plan and they are all 4's or 4s' with 5.0.0 or higher OS.  Soooo do we just wait until they "get it resolved" and does that mean Apple will come out with a software upgrade?

Do you really mean 5.1 beta or 5.0.1?

    Are you a developer?

Also something interesting ... if you make a call and try to "mute" it while ringing, you can't hit the mute button!

You can do it on other iPhones though while the call is starting, you can mute it right away where the phones that aren't working properly can't be muted ... maybe that's part of the problem ... ?

Having the same issue.  I compiled a list of notes that I plan on showing today.  I thought nothing of it thinking it was network.  Stuff happens.  I will post back and let you guys know the outcome.  Here is my notes for your benefit.  It does seem like if the phone is in standby longer the liklihood of the problem reoccuring is greater.  I personally think it is a sensor glitch as my raise to speak also doesn't always work right.  Otherwise awesome phone.  I work in IT and generally find notes as a helpful way for me to wrap my brain around problems.  I definitely am starting to think it is a sensor glitch.

    1.  Problem since day 1 but never thought anything of it.  Thought it was network.

        a.  If I had known I would of had this phone back to you guys on day 1.  However I was in a location with low network reception at the time.

    2.  Probability of the problem reoccurring is greater when the phone is in standby longer.

    3.  It is almost like the speaker is not turning on or getting power like it is still asleep.

    3.  Turning off bluetooth sometimes triggers it after a long sleep.'

    4.  Incoming calls always work properly without a hitch.  I think this wakes up the ear piece.

    5.  No clue if this is software or hardware.

    6.  Seems like thousands of others are having this problem.  The description is exactly what I am experiencing.

        https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3404857?start=495&tstart=0

        a.  US

        b.  Canada

        c.  Europe

    7.  Willing to wait it out for a software update but no clue since some people say a phone replacement solved it.

    8.  Turning mute on and off always fixes it or speaker on and off.

    9.  The problem is gradually getting even worse.  Fresh iPhone as I have never owned an iPhone before.  Restore doesn't work.

    10.  Mixed reports about Apple knowing about the issue and it is software.  Some Apple Stores are just giving out replacement phones which also doesn't always work.

    11.  Not good for my job as I keep saying hello and can not hear anybody.

    12.  Timer keeps ticking no audio.

    13.  https://www.facebook.com/iPhone4SOutgoingCallNoAudio?sk=wall&filter=1   Consensus is that a hardware replacement fixes it.

    14.  Put phone to sleep for 45 minutes.  Made a call to my work phone at my desk.  I could hear my work phone but no audio in my iPhone.

    15.  Totally out of my 30 day window as I ignored the issue but now it keeps getting worse.  Wouldn't trade this in for a different phone but want a replacement as this seems to be the only way most individuals are getting the fix.

I have also noticed that after siri raise to speak my speaker turns on full blast and is super obnoxious.
