Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

We still have no idea whether this is a hardware or software issue, people are wasting their time waiting for software updates that don't produce fixes, traveling to Apple Stores, arguing with geniuses, calling Apple Care, shipping their devices at their own cost, all of the above multiple times for some, not to mention once you get a phone that is free of the no audio problem you encounter other hardware problems such as yellow screen, echo etc, if you run into the battery problem you're lucky because Apple has acknowledged it and working on it.

Bad luck for me. I got my iphone 4s (32GB) replaced about two weeks ago. The "no audio on call" issue was gone so I thought I'm part of the lucky ones, where the problem has gone after replacement.

Unfortunately the I've two new problems now. Battery is much worse than on my first phone. Standby is ok with about 1% battery drain per hour, but as soon as I use the phone (calls, email, internet) i can watch the percentage tag beside the battery going down. second problem is, that on each x call, after a few minutes, the person on the other side of the lane can't here me very well. I always get told, that for them it sounds like bad connection of my phone. problem is I've full connection at the "problem-calls" and I can understand everything clearly. so it sounds like some problem with the mic or something like that.

however, called the tech support again today (18min call -> 7% battery gone). the again will give me a new phone per express exchange (god bless acpp). the guy told me, that i should ask for redirection of the tech-leader, if the new phone as well has problems. hopefully, the 3rd iphone will work for me without problems

    best regards

    Hi!

I have the same problem. Going to go to apple store and have my phone replaced. So i just wanted to make one thing clear. You got replacement. Was it a brand new iphone from original package or something from under the table?

grateful in advance for your answer. It worries me a lot.

Никому, кроме тебя, это не ведомо! Если при тебе открыли обычную коробку в которой новые телефоны продаются - новый. Если любую другую - тто это так называемый "фабрично восстановленный". Б/У короче. Но ты же тоже Б/У сдавал?

So far the Speaker Toggle Fix is working for me.  Once a few days ago my phone locked up in speaker mode and I had to turn it off and on to make calls again.  That's definitely software.

I've also had a problem with my ear touching the mute button while talking.  With the proximity detector the iPhone should have the touch screen disabled when the phone is at your ear.  Obviously it's not.

Apple really needs to address these nagging phone usage problems!  After all, the iPhone 4S..... first and foremost.... NEEDS TO WORK AS A PHONE!!!

Does anybody know if Apple even reads these threads?  Do they even care?  Why does it take the mainstream media getting involved to get Apple to respond?

Apple, I switched from Android to iPhone.  Was that a mistake?!?!?!

Same issue for me. The Audio doesn't work neither for Incoming nor Outgoing calls at all.

Got my new iPhone 4S (white, 32 GB) in Spain. I live in Argentina, where there is NO Official Apple Store to make a claim, so I don't know what to do. If to wait for a probably software update (which does not guarantee to solve the problem), or look for someone that travells to U.S.A.,/Europe and see if they change it for a new one.

UPDATE: I just completely restored my 4s because the cover art wasn't showing properly in iTunes. Backups were being done to iCloud.  iOS is 5.0.1. Well, guess what? The speakerphone works just fine now.

The cover art is another PITA which is still apparently badly broken however...

Можно. И здесь об этом подробно писали - что и как. Полистай.

Только - нафига? Проще дождаться стабильного релиза.

Relax and wait for 5.1. I'm in the same situation as you.

Had the same no audio issue with my iphone 4s on outgoing calls. Would happen one out of every 20 outgoing calls or so. It also had the problem where the speakerphone would automatically turn on during outgoing calls as well. Went to the Apple store two weeks ago and demonstrated the speakerphone glitch to the genius.

He told me it was probably corrupt software and instructed me to restore ios 5.01 on it.

Initially the problem seemed to go away but after a few days, the problems returned.

Went back to the Apple store yesterday and they gave me a new reaplcement. So far so good.

Haven't been able to reproduce the probelm yet.

Again it is hardware... I had the same thing a few hours of goodness and then it just went right back to being bad.  New phoine has been absolutely fine.

    Get a hardware replacement!
