Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer. 

 

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

    Hi everybody,

    I am on my second iphone 4S 32GB white, which was changed because of bad battery life. So my exchanged iphone has a fairly better battery life, but now 1-2 out of 10 calls have the "no audio issue" on outgoing calls. The timer runs, the other party can hear me, but I hear nothing and have to compose the call again. This is not what I have paid for: a very sophisticated but as well a very expensive phone.

     

    I talked to my provider T Mobile in Germany, they say: havn't heard of the promblem yet. Because of the good battery life my current phone has, I am hesitating to change it again. I am waiting for further details on the problem. Please keep me informed, as I will keep you updated.

    Same here.iphone 4s 16 gb from Vodafone Romania. Call failed 30% of the time , call drops every day,no audio from time to time and today no ringtone sound when i received a call.

    The weird part is that i think that all ilemons..sorry all iphones 4s are flops.

    I will ask for a replacement this week.

     

    ps: from 11 nov i have 30 h talk time.

    Exactly the same problem with my first phone, got my phone replaced the day after at apple store, don't even bother with phone support...they take up way too much of your time and solve nothing.  Go to the store and tell them what happened and get it replaced.  My second phone is good =)

    I have had the same problem and had my iPhone 4 replaced for the same issue once before. Now a couple of months have gone by and it is now out of warrenty which *****. I surely hope that you all have better luck than me.

    Just a question, did your replacement phone have iOS 5.01 already installed or did you have to install it yourself after you got the phone?

    I am now on day 3 of my new phone.  The Apple Store replaced it for me on Monday.  4s, 16 gig black.   Mine came with 5.0.  I restored the phone from the icloud and then plulgged it into itunes where it asked me to upgrade to 5.01.

     

    So far I have not had the problem occurr so I'm hopeful the hardware replacement has fixed things.

    Did a factory reset on my 32gb 4s 5.0.1. First call out with no audio. Everyplace in town is out of the 4s. This is an absolute disgrace for an $800 phone.

    hi everybody,

     

    same problem with my 6-weeks-old black 4s 64GB. in estimated 75% of outgoing calls i have no audio-response from the other end of the line. usually i fix it with the speaker-on/speaker-off-procedure, which normally works. already created an apple ticket on the support line and intend to get a hardware exchange, but was to busy at the moment to find my way to an apple-store.

    bought one 4s 64 a month ago, same problem muting on outgoing calls etc. then on 5.0

    upgraded tto 5.01 no change

    returned phone , just go the other one, same problem

    one friend bought also , and by him its fine.

    cannot use the phone like this , what to do?

    any reaction from apple at all?

    the replacement fone that you got, did it have 5.01 pre-installed on it or did you have to install it yourself?

    the fone your friend has, did it have 5.01 pre-installed or did he have 5 installed & upgraded to 5.01?

     

    do you have an echo problem with your headset as well? with any of your fones?

    Data point (U.S., AT&T, no wired or BT headset used):

    • 2 week old 4S 64GB black, 38% failure rate in controlled test (no audio on outgoing calls)
      • came with 5.0.1 out of the box
      • Pass/Fail pattern: (F=fail, p=pass)
        • FFpFpppppFp after being on for a few days; never leave Phone app during this run
        • FpFFpppppp leave Phone app and activate something else after each call
        • FppFpFFpFp fresh power off/on reboot, never leave Phone ap during this run
        • 100% success fixing the problem by activating speaker mid-call, then returning to handset mode
    • replaced hardware at Apple store, 4S 64GB black, 0% failure rate
      • came with 5.0 out of the box, updated to 5.0.1 during restore from backup prior to any calls
    • Common prefix in both serial numbers: C39GP, remaining digits different

    Hey Guys. I have followed this forum since day one. I had the same problem with no sound on outgoing calls.
    I exchanged my phone. And the new one works perfectly. The only thing that surprised me is that the new phone's IMEI number is lower than the old phone. but I do not care as long as it works. I wish you all good luck from a long last, happy member of the "apple family."
