Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer. 

 

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Well, I'm on my 3rd 16gb 4s and this one is working. No problems connecting and I can hear everyone fine now -- never have to switch to speaker. If I hold the mic too close to my mouth, there is an echo at times, but otherwise the problem is gone. The first 2 phones I had the issue was almost constant. Happened on over 60% of the calls I made.

 

Hopefully it can be fixed with a patch, but at this point, Apple hasn't even acknowledged that it's a known issue (at least not to me).

 

I tried talking to them on the phone, but the only way to accomplish anything was to go to the Apple Store and exchange it for a different phone.

    Is anyone with this issue still running iOS 5.0, ie, did not upgrade to 5.01?

    Problem - No sound for outbound calls.

    Frequency - almost everytime. Close to 100%

     

    Observations-

    1. Problem is encountered for multiple networks i.e. whether I am calling a # on Vodafone, Airtel or Docomo, its there.

    2. Tried turning off Siri, reboot, frequent re-dials.

    3. I have better luck with re-dials. Usually the 3rd attempt works. But I have to dial each number 3 times for it to work.

    4. Toggling Speaker phone workaround works everytime.

     

    Troubleshooting-

    1. Tried restoring with new build of iOS 5.01 9A406.

    2. Post restore the phone had 100% success rate with calling.

    3. All was good till I played music on iPhone 4s. The problem of "no sound for outbound calls" returned after that.

     

    Pls message me if you have similar observations.

    I live in the netherlands and ordered a Iphone 4S 64GB (Black) from Vodafone NL, what i received last tuesday (After waiting for it about 1,5 month due shipping issues with apple).

     

    I have the also de outgoing calls no sound issue. I also tried al the things that are mentioned here in this forum, except IOS 5.1 beta 2. I read here in this topic about users that there problems where solved after the beta 2 if IOS 5.1, so iam going to test that also. I dont have a Dev account but you can register for free, but the UDID part is not free. I found a Developer that will register my iphones UDID for 2 weeks, so that i can test it with IOS 5.1 beta 2.

     

    i will give it a try and then update here if problem wil be solved for me.

     

    Also extra info, i noticed that if i plug in the headphones and i make a outgoing call that my speaker will automaticly enables and if i disable it again that i dont hear any sound, not even from headphones. but this happens randomly, not all the time. Still annoying about that i paid that lot of money for this :S

     

    Iam not waiting to go to Vodafone again and wait another long time for another phone might they swap them because of hardware failure :S

    i've restore my 4S with 9a406 and the problem is not present, for the moment.

     

    this night, i've played music, tomorrow i will re-test my phone, if the problem will represent i write in this post.

     

    at the moment, the problem is not present...

    I restored with 9a406 and still have the same problem.   Have to toggle speakerphone to get sound,

    hi all im from Hong Kong, got my 16GB 4S about 2 weeks ago, serial number starts with C37

    i got the outgoing call no sound problem, but i never use hand-free so i dont know whether mine got that problem too.

    my 4S comes with IOS 5.0 and got about 1/5~6 calls no sound

    i updated to 5.0.1(9A406) today and the problem goes even worse, becoming 1 out of 2 calls no sound.

    now turn off siri and it is alleviated, going back to 1/5 calls no sound.

     

    i was trying to download the 5.1 beta2 from web but faced "unknown failure (3914)" and i still cant update to 5.1 beta to see whether this lovely problem is solved. so is anyone know how i can update my 4S to 5.1beta2? thanks

     

    p.s. im now consindering to exchange my phone but im little bit doubtful about if the replaced phone would got same thing happens.

    I' m busy now restoring my iPhone 4S,and will let the 9A406 version install.

    I'll see what kind of changes it brings to the problem and i'll let you know.

    But up till now,I think it will be just waiting for the IOS 5.1 update.

    Solution  -

     

    Defintely a software issue

    since calls always work on Facetime, Viber and Skype.

     

     

    Upgrade to IOS 5.1 BETA

     

    I did it and the problem is gone [it has been 3 days since]

     

    to do it you must register your iphone UDID in apple

    and then get the latest Beta Firmware 5.1 Beta

     

    this will solve your problem ...

    i downloaded the 5.1beta2 patch from the web but when updating it on itunes , it said there is 'unknown failure 3914"

    And not letting to update to 5.1 beta 2 , do anyone know how to solve it ??
