Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

Это датчик, который работает на разные фичи на встряску, в частности для смены песни в плеере. У всех так, короче. Не парься!

Exactly Kinst! 99% of 4S got that sound - like a loose piece of metal! Also static noise, loud vibrations, yellow display, and lot more!

I can't agree.. I just shake my old HTC TD2 - the same noise, I think it's mean some camera's autofocus part... I do not have any other things but "no sound" and hope to exchange my unit next week.

Yeas, a lot of bugs... But what is the other choice? Samsung? Ржунимагу. Don't try to use google translator, it's too stupid tool.

    Thanks.

At the moment it looks like there is only one way to solve the problem. Swapping the phone again and again.

    Extremely frustrating!

Here are my problems.  Please  help!  I'm 15 and I dumped all of my summer's lawn mowings into this  phone thinking it was the best investment of my life to find this  dilemna.

SMS:  It says message send failure, although the recipient receives the text.  When they attempt to respond, I receive nothing.

Phone:   It attempts to call the person, freezing on the dialing part although  the recipeint on the other line is connected, just cannot here me.  The  weird part is my phone doesnt say we are connected.  I cannot receive  calls.

Overall,  I am extremely P.O'd because I just dumped 300 dollars on a piece of  shat phone i cant even talk or text on. ***?!?!?!??!!?!?!??!??!?!?  And  all the other features work great BUT the two stated above.

Im in the Uk. Just bought a new 16gig 4s last week (upgrade from 02) Experiencing the same problems with no audio on some outgoing calls.. When I did a restore to update 9A406 the problem was rectified but as soon as I played music using headphones the problem returned. Done three restores and I see the same pattern. Surely this has to be a sofware bug because my friend is also having the same trouble on a replacement phone? (its the main reason i dont want to replace just yet.  The muted call issue is currently happening in about 20 out of a 100 calls but when I click speaker twice during a blank call, I can hear the other person again. A pitiful workaround and one that shouldnt be required on a 600 quid phone.

I am a loyal apple fan. We use three macbooks and an ipad in our family, this is the first time I've been severely let down as far functionality and reliability is concerned.

I am in Slovenia. Just bought a brand new phone 4S and on outgoing call i have to press the speaker and then back to normal, so i can hear the person i called. It happens in 4/10 calls.

It is annoying to buy such a piece of expensive technology and have problems like this!

Just did a restore as new phone via dfu mode, then did a resync.  And, unbelievably.. my battery problems (which I'd previously accepted as normal) have rectified. Everything is on. (ie location, bluetooth, push wifi, siri) and I'm still at 99% battery after four and a bit hours. Before I was draining 3% every 15 mins.  So far I've only had one 'no audio outbound' call. I am scared to connect the headphones however incase it comes back LOL. We should not be scared of our phones people. It's unacceptable.. Come on Apple, pull your finger out, and admit it's a MAJOR problem and promise to find a solution. It's basic respect for your customers that is sorely lacking and what is making everybody irrate.

btw my batch of phones was created December 2011. 49th week according to that chipmunk site

    (Model introduced: 2011

    Production year: 2011

    Production week: 49  (December)

so  I know it's not just a dodgy old batch. It has to be a BUG. I dont seen what replacing the handset will do because its basically a lottery out there.  My nearest store is miles away so if I do go there and get the runaround or worse..receive a second defective phone like my friend did. I may just lose the plot. I don't know how some of you have managed to remain so calm after receiving 2,3,and even 4 defective replacement phones or why you keep going back. It's bang out of order that customers have to put up with this while Apple is still silent on the issue.

    You are so right bucking_follocks.......

I agree 100% that it is amazing, that so many still keep their iphone 4s, and not just return for a refund, which would send a clear message to Apple that we the customers will not take this anymore and angry that Apple will not give us the time of day with a proper response.  Guess many are just plan apple fanboys that they will take anything Apple and hope that someday it will be fixed.  I even suggested to make a complaint with the BBB in your area, like I did on something else, which should get a response.

So I have absolutely no sympathy at all for those that continue keeping their phone

I think it's a little bit harsh calling everyone an "Apple fanboy". Given how many people here have reported how much trouble it was to get a new phone I understand that people hesitate and hope the 5.1 release fixes things.

This is true for me at least. I have 2 MacBook Pros, one iPhone 4, all working flawlessly. My new iPhone 4s however did not. I'm very frustrated and disapointed by Apple that they don't openly adress this. However It's very common that they do behave like this...

However, given that we don't have an Apple store in Sweden yet and that I have to send my iPhone away for "repair" for several weeks through my operator this just is a really big problem.

I'm hoping the 5.1 release will fix it. If it won't then I'll demand a new one or get it "repaired". But I still hope that it's a software bug and that I don't have to go through the hassel once the 5.1 release is out.

My woeful update, which is now a frustrating and potential life critical issue.

I am on my 3rd iPhone 4s, which I've had 4 weeks exactly as of today. No issues with this 3rd one until this morning.

Had a heart attack last week and was discharged yesterday. Consdering the blockages and the problem with the fix I am literally lucky to be alive.

Then today, while calling docs and setting up appointments, BAM!. Both the "I can't hear them" and "they can't hear me" problems start. Had to do a full "power off / power on" to get it to work OK.

So, now my ONLY contact to the "outside of my apartment world", my 4s, might fail me if I have to call 911 or an Emergency Room should I have any medical issues related to the attack.

APPLE! Get off your but and ACKNOWLEDGE AND FIX THIS ISSUE! For some it can be the difference between life and death!

Of course I can call and get a landline put in, but yeah, right before the Holidays and having to buy phones at packed stores while I am supposed to be resting and relaxing.

    Trackphone here I come!

    Mike
