Hello Everyone. I would like to share my story here. I have been quietly following this thread pretty much since I got my new iPhone in November.
The very first day I had my phone, I had the no outgoing audio issue, although I didn't know what was going on. I thought it was weird and tried the call again and it worked. I didn't think much of it until it began happening more frequently then I decided to look it, low and behold, a 60 something page thread about it!
At that time, it seemed the general consensus was that it was a hardware issue so I immediately called Rogers (Canada) and explained to them the issue. The person I was talking to said his iPhone 4s did the exact same thing and he recommended I call Apple directly because it would be a shorter process to have them exchange the phone. Ok I though, gave Apple a call and after finally getting through to the lady I was talking to she said she would send me the box within 2 days, I would box the phone and return it, and I would receive my new iphone a few days after. Sounds simple.
10 days later I still had not received the box so I took a look at the email they send out after the request for replacement is made and the postal code was incorrect. There was an N instead of a Z, which I attibute to Canadians saying 'zed' and Americans saying 'zee'. No biggie, I called again and explained to the rep what happened, he took down my correct information and said the box will arrive within 2 business days.
8 Days later, when I had still not received the return box, I called once again, to ask what was going on. After being put on hold for what seemed like an eternity the rep couldn't figure it out. After another hold, she told me that she talked to the shipping department and that the return boxes were on backorder because there had been so many replacement requests, I suppose. She said if you have not received your box within 1 week, certainly call us back.
10 days later, bringing us to last night, I called once again to ask what exactly was going on. Once I had explained to the rep my whole story, she was rather speechless. She asked me to hold, then came back and said after talking with her supervisor, they were going to transfer me to Tier 2 support. Ok fine, hold for another 15 minutes and Tier 2 support is finally on the line. He immediately looks at the file that was started for me (which must be pages long by now) and asks me to hold, sure why not? Been on hold for 30 minutes so why not a little more, I just love their static hold music.
The tier 2 support finally comes back and says that after some digging, he found out that there was not even an attempt to send a return package to me. The replacement request had been made multiple times, but no one had ever tried to send the package to me. Perfect. At least now it seems I have an answer. He assures me that he has sent one (or requested it) and put a rush on it. If I have not received it in 2 business days to call him directly. Not really holding my breath. Also, I am a little leary of sending my phone in if these were the hoops I had to jump through to get an empty box.
So last night, I had also read that the new build of 5.0.1 had helped some people so why not give it a try? I restore and set up as a new iPhone with the new build and the audio problem is still there, but now coupled with a crippling text issue, text messages will not send. I have tried rebooting/restarting but they just keep piling up. Every few minutes some of them will send. So I am not sure what is causing this issue, I will try another restore tonight.
I have long been a fan of Apple products, but I have also been a fan of Blackberry. After much contemplation (and a quick glimpse at RIMs current standing) I gave up my beloved Blackberry and decided to switch to iPhone. I don't want to say I completely regret it but this is getting a bit ridiculous. Anyhow, I'll try to keep you guys updated with what happens next. Just had to have a little rant, apologies for the long reply.
