Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

My phone started doing the same today - I answered an incoming call but couldn't hear the person on the other end. I tried caling back but I couldn't hear it ringing or the person who answered. Apparantly they can hear me when I call however. I tried calling the top up line and when I switched speaker on, I could hear the call. I can hear music through my itunes when I play it and also in various apps. My phone has just passed it's 1 year warranty so any suggestions on how to fix this without having to fork out for a new phone would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have an iPhone 4 - I created a new discussion earlier and someone replied to it telling me to post in here as it was where everyone was discussing a similar problem.

    ok.im sorry.

If you have 4 and also ios 5.0.1 then probably it "seems" to be a software bug.

hopefully , as others said, apple will "fix" it with 5.1...

kotchak you beat me to it.  I was also going to say since people with iPhone 4 are also having this issue, my hope is that it will be resolved with OS 5.1.

To update everyone on my essay of a post on Monday (I think), I have since received my return box but I am going to wait until the holidays are over with so I don't have to be without a phone for an extended period of time.  Hopefully iOS 5.1 comes out before too long.

    Happy Holidays everyone.

So you don't think there is any point in taking it to an apple store to see if they can fix it or even replace it?

Did the problem just start to occur when you upgraded to iOS 5.0.1?  Or have you not upgraded and the problem started?  Need a little more detail.

I always update to the latest software as soon as it is released so I've had iOS 5.0.1 for a while now. I made my last phonecalls yesterday evening all of which were fine and today I only became aware of the problem when my mum called me and I answered but couldn't hear her. So I tried to call back and she answered but I couldn't hear her again. When I got home, she said that she was able to hear me. So since then, I've tried to restore my phone and tried removing the sim, switching it on and off but nothing has worked. It just seems really weird that out of nowhere this happens and I can still hear the other person on the phone with speaker phone on.

Does toggling the speaker on/off restore sound to the earpiece?  I haven't had issues with people hearing me, but I have not been able to hear people on several occasions.  So I can't really speak on the fact that your mother couldn't hear you.  If you read through the thread you will see that just about everyone has their own thoughts on what the cause/resolution could be/may be.  I know that I have read about a few people with iPhone 4's that have experienced these same issues.  I am clinging to that thought and hoping because of this, it is not a hardware issue with my phone, but a software bug that will be fixed shortly.

No, I tried that when I read someone had posted to try it earlier.
