Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

A few days and the problem appears again. New build od iOS5.0.1 is not solving the issue.

I've informed of the bug at:

    http://bugreport.apple.com

They've sent me instructions on how to send them iPhone logs in order to solve the issue.

You can fill a bug too and report them, just use the same AppleID you're using to log-in here to report the bug on the url address above.

Don't bother sending any bug reports.

Upgrade you IOS to 5.1 beta.

    This will solve your problem.

Pay sOmeone online to register your UDID

Only then you can install the 5.1 beta firmware.

    Good luck.

And everyone that has this problem

Do the same , it's a software issue with the 5 and 5.01.

Do you know whom and how much could it be paid to register my UDID and then upgrade it to Beta version?

    Hi,

I upgraded to 5.1 beta 2 like you suggested and I can confirm that it has not solved the problem.

My calls do not have audio otherwise my phone works perfectly. I am quite sure it is a software issue as I have been using the iPhone 4 since launch and this problem has only arisen with iOS 5 releases. The initial iOS 5 update was working perfectly and then I noticed the outgoing call issue. I decided to update to 5.0.1 in hopes of solving the problem to no avail. Today, I updated to 5.1 beta 2, and i'm not sure how I was able to activate it on my phone as I do not have a developer account, but shows up as 5.1 on my phone and syncs properly to iTunes.

My phone has been like this for 2 weeks now and I am getting very frustrated especially with work calls. Hoping 5.1 final will rectify this very annoying bug.

I had this problem from day one. I got a new phone and restored the same settings from my backup.

No more problems. I do not care is this a software or hardware issue.

I went to replace my phone and replacement I was offered also had the no audio on some out going calls issue and EVEN WORSE battery performance. Thats the reason I rejected it.  The 'Genius' said the replacement phone had been thoroughly tested by technicians which was either a load of bollocks, or it was tested and this audio thing is actually a software bug which creeps up on the users when certain variables are changed in the phone (which is what I suspect because incoming calls are perfect, never had a problem. Also a restore is the quick temporary fix which again points to software being dodgy). The genius was relectuant to let me stay in the shop and test the replacement phone and now I know why.  It's a good job I insisted otherwise I would have had another stinker from Apple.

I think this is all ios 5.0.1related because most of the Iphone 4 owners  on this thread are now fellow sufferers - they are complaining of  the same audio issue since updating to ios 5.

Bought my 4s on 21st Dec, white, 16GB, was on iOS 5.0 and I couldn't hear any sound on my first 2 calls!!! It happened on about 30% of my outgoing calls overall.

I've read all the discussions on the web, upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 9A405 and then to iOS 5.0.1 9A406 after I read here that for some it worked. But I still have the problem.

I really don't want to change my phone, since it is not certain that the new one will work. Toggle of the speaker works for me for now, and I can live for a few more days or weeks until 5.1 proper is released. But can anyone please confirm that 5.1 (beta 2) has 100% solved the issue for them? If this is the case, I can wait...

My mate texted saying his second replacement (supposedly new) iphone is exhibiting the same issues with muted outgoing calls only this time he also has static during calls. This is either serious software flaw or a barrel of monkeys are putting these phones together at Foxconn. This really is dismal form, Apple.

i somehow don't believe there will be a simple software-fix for that problem.

i still have an iphone 3gs with ios 3.2.1 with absolutely the same issue.

one month ago i bought the new 4S - ios 5.0.1 again same issue, already got a replacement - same...
