I am having the same audio issue.

The screen of my iPhone 4S 16gb is also turning on and off by itself. Sometimes, when I unlock it, instead of going to the apps screen it turns off the screen forcing me to press the home or power button again.

Belo Horizonte - Brazil - Bought my iPhone at "TIM" carrier but using it with an "OI" carrier SIM card. Serial number starts with C37

Update: Took my iPhone 4s into an Apple Genius Bar, explained the issues: (1) intermittent lack of audio on phone calls and (2) wierdness with headset attached where phone switches to speaker phone mode.

I had the same issue when Bluetooth headsets were connected. I solved it by navigating to

Settings->General->Accessibility->Physical & Motor->'Incoming calls' and changing the audio source from 'Default' to 'Headset'. I can now change from iPhone to Speaker to Headset without audio getting lost. When the Bluetooth headset is not connected the audio defaluts to the Phone. This is a software issue for sure, the phone did not behave like this for the first few days I had it.

Unfortunetley the **** Phone is still dropping calls.

I have the same issue with a recently purchased Iphone 4s 16GB. It seems to be intermittant but is a problem none the less. As many have said this appears to require an urgent fix.

The same here. I'm in Brazil with a unlocked 4S 16Gb using Vivo operator.

I get about 20% of outcoming calls with issue, no problems with incoming calls.

I have some issues using Viber, does anyone have this app installed? Can this be an app not ready to iOS 5 causing this issue?

In the first 3 days I don't have any problems, after the problem starts. I don't know what can be related. I'm in 9A406 but have the same in 9A405.

I'm using bluetooth in the car and is very very rare a problem calling this way. The workaround turn on-off always works but all outgoing call I have to check if ther is an echo, if is the calling is mute, if not is fine.

Serial is C39 purchased in the launch day in Brazil (12/16/11) from TIM store.

If I make 10 calls with no pause I have no issue. If I leave the phone for a time in standby and call I have problem. The second call never fail, just the first.

Same issue here.. Between 5hour battery life, Siri unable to function, dropped calls, a frequent inability to toggle themute/speaker and the front camera producing little more than a black screen....this experience has been frustrating... Hopefully it wont be hard to get a replacement, i am glad i kept my previous iPhone 4. If not, i would have been without a functional phone.

Does anyone have the change log ou release notes about this betas?

There is anythink related to audio issues in the changes?

I have the same issue. When I try to make a call i see the "calling" in the screen of the iPhone 4S, But i can's hear any sound or the dialing tone, If I want to end the "FAIL CALLING" I press the "end" button after that the iPhone don't responds for the ending command! I must go to the home page and close the phone app through pressing the home button two time and hold on the apps and close the app.

And if others try to calling me I can't see any notification for the missd call and no sounds, the other tell me they hear the "Busy" tone if they call me.

And the same problem with andcolla I have it with my iPhone 4S:

I have some issues using Viber, does anyone have this app installed? Can this be an app not ready to iOS 5 causing this issue?

In the first 3 days I don't have any problems, after the problem starts. I don't know what can be related. I'm in 9A406 but have the same in 9A405.

I can't using the Viber app after the problem starts with me.

Yesterday I have to try 5 times and restart the phone to make a Viber call. The phone app crash ate this time.

    Maybe this can be related.

  • iKHALEDM Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

My problem is when i try to make a call with Viber or the phone app, i can't do it!

the app (if it Viber or the phone app) can't make a dial it doesn't responds after the "Dial" command.

I hope the issue will be fix in the next up date (5.1)

Tried to kill all apps and hard reset (home+power buttons) the phone?

  • iKHALEDM Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Yes I did all this steps, and I did restore it!

  • andcolla Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    Firmware 9A405 or 9A406?

    Restore as a new iPhone?

  • iKHALEDM Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    9A405 as i think!

    No from backup.

[EDIT: this is not a solution for the original issue - probably wrong thread]

If you have this issue: always (no exception) extremely low sound levels from the small ear speaker, but normal loud sound from headphones or the speaker?

    I FIXED IT !!!

TO ALL USERS WITH THIS PROBLEM:

REMOVE THE PLASTIC FILM PROTECTION FROM THE FRONT SCREEN.

It covers the ear speaker and totally muffles the sound from it. I just cut out a piece of the foil to leave the earspeaker uncovered. Got to buy some new screenprotection now...

Apple did not pay attention to this little detail, and of course many users leave this protection on as it came out of the box, so they don't scratch the display.

This can not solve all the reported intermittent problems (where audio works sometimes, not consistently), but if you have consistent low sound and this tip helps, click the 'Like' button below ;-)

    Good luck,

    Mark
