Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

Count me in on this "outgoing call no audio", am using the 4S 16GB (iOS 5.01) with Apple iPhone4 Bumper.

The Phone app would "hang" if we attempt to redial the same number consecutively.

At times in places where I'm supposed to get a good reception, the top bar would show "Searching..."

and stays "stuck" in that mode. The phone is on the desk when this happens.

A reboot usually fixes itself. Just wondering if anyone here encountered this?

Just wanted to let you know I was in at my local Apple Store and asked a Genius if what some forums are saying is that the no phone audio problem might be related to 5.0.1 update. He said that I shouldn't believe what I read and that anyone posting anything like that probably just doesn't know how to use their phone. I told him that I had had two phones that had intermittent audio issues. He didn't say anything. I was in the store because under diagnostics, there had been three instances of kernel panic. My phone yesterday was shutting itself off and then restarting itself. He was incredibly rude. Just thought his opinion he shared was uninformed and it also shows he doesn't listen to customers because he doesn't think they know anything.

completely frustrating.. can't leave a voicemail and people get creeped out when you call them.  Restarting the phone seems to work but this is a HUGE FN problem ( way beyond the other one's of getting icloud to sync properly). I just switched to verizon because ATandT wouldn't have audio on either end. But hey one side is something... Just not enough.

Just saw the report the apple store genius wrote up on me. He lied and said I wouldn't listen and demanded a replacement. Beware, you might end up with someone like this guy. I'm calling a Senior Advisor tomorrow. By the way, I was told by the tech on the phone that if in diagnostics it shows a kernel panic, that you have a hardware issue. Mine had it three times and I showed it to the genious and he told a kernel panic does not mean hardware. He took the phone in the back and when he came back he said he had ran a diagnostic and it showed no problem. I asked again what kernel panic meant and he said software. I am confused and angry. It appears Apple does not care if you have problems and they are not going to address it. Don't hold your breath that help is coming. Please let me know if there is anyone out there that knows what a kernel panic means. I would like to know. I had had two phones with the issue in this thread the third phone did not have the problem or any problem until the last three days with yesterday being the worst. Just thought I would let you all know.

Got a brand new handset from the Apple store and it seems to be working fine. I tested it in the store to make sure.

Hi all! Congradulations for me, it seems I'm at the end of the way. My story was:

    1. Bought the first iPhone, Finland, 10.11.2011 at Sonera. Camera blind, Exchanged in Sonera next day.

    2. Got the secong iPhone 11.11.2011 at sonera. NO AUDIO on outgoing call since the very first call. Battery lasts abot 24 hours, screen is OK other things are OK.

    3. Got the third iPhone as an axchange ot Genius Bar in London Regent Street. 28.12.2011. No questions were asked, exchanged in a minutes. Assembled in week 51, black box (remanufactured, not refubrished). But the vibro motor produced minor SOUND.

    4. Got a fourth iPhone as an exchange due to vibro sound. 30.12.2011. No questions asked. Got one of 49 week of producing, no problems with audio, but home button sits slightly deep and the battery! Drains within 16-18 hours by active usage...

    5. Went to the Genius last time and claim about battery. 04.01.2012. Few questions were asked, but soon offered to the new one. Genius bring the 51-week production one - vibro produces sound. The next, the last and existing one is silent with vibru, no audio issues and the battery is even the best than very first one. Now i'm on the first charge (without calibrating even) and the statistic shows 1 day 7 hours with 4 hours of usage and still 20% left!

So, I'm happy so far. If this was happend at HTS or Samsung ones, they would be killed. But the iPhone is really great device. I'm still thinking to convince my wife to have the same but white.

PS: the last genius said that ALL blackboxed iPhones are REMANUFACTURED (not REFUBRISHED!). But as I'm former technocal specialist, I know that remanufactured is actually equial to "new". But be avare - it seems that not alwaus you gets a NEW remanufactured! The one on 28.12 I got was without plastic bag - just in the box. The others were taken from the box and from bag inside.

Tried today calling with voice command (Siri disabled because don't have protuguese language).

First one is fine, second mute, tried again and call is fine. Same if I have dial in phone app.

I have the problem the same dialling in contacts, favorites, enter the number...

Does someone have access to 5.1 beta 2 changlog to confirm if this issue is been solved?

Can someone with developer access report this bug?

I think if all do this Apple will start to listen.

After taking my phone for two weeks and only installing new "software" the issue reappeared right after I started making calls again. I went back and they sent it back to apple for further analysis. They say they should now replace it since the first fix didnt seem to actually fix it. It's been three weeks, I paid a **** of a lot of money to enjoy a phone and thats the way it goes.

VERY DISAPPOINTED. No more iphones for me, not worth it!

I have tried the suggestion on here to amend these settings :

    Settings>General>Accessibility>Physical & Motor>Incoming calls>Headset

For no obvious reason I am getting a much better audio experience. So far all of my out going calls now have sound. It might be worth others trying this to see if it helps them.

I have been suffering from the issue for a while.

Apple support suggested that I reset my iPhone 4s and restored my backup, everything was fine for a couple of days, but now it is back, the people at the other side shouting "Hello! Hello!" Creepy!

So, another call to apple support. 2 options, and no, I am not kidding:

    1. they sent someone to collect my phone, and it will be in repair for two to three weeks

or ... and hold on, this is where it gets funny

    2. they would sent someone to pick it up and send a new phone with the same person, but I would need to pay an additional 30 euros.

So yes, I bought (actually it was my boss) a €650 phone, that I cannot use to make phonecalls and they want to replace it for an additional €30 ... yesbutnobutyesbutno ... seriously.

Anyway, I choose option 1 ... here we go.
