Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

You do know that the fix and link you provide Glennsam was for the iphone 4 back in 2007/2009 ending in 2010 prior to the iphone 4S issues in 2011/2012  ?

And a number of customers had tried the blowing into the iphone, working for a bit than re-appeared again later on.

Yeah! I knew it was just a pot shot. Guess I'll just keep trading mine in until Apple finds the problem.

I have an iphone 4S 64 GB and have been having the problem with outgoing calls. As a physician who uses my phone to call patients, I'm very concerned about the problem. It it sporadic, and does seem to temporarily get fixed with a reboot. I'm pretty disgusted with the fact that Apple has neither admitted to , nor offered a fix, for the problem. I still have no idea whether it is a software or hardware issue, since Apple has not weighed in on this. I noticed that some, who have access to ios 5.1 beta seem to think that the problem has resolved, but the numbers are very small relative to the number of people with the problem. Honestly, the take home message to me is to never buy a newly released apple product. Gone are the days when you can trust that they have fully debugged the products. I will only buy something midway in the product cycle from now on and after checking the boards for these kind of nightmares( IF ever...) BTW my upgrade from ios 4 to 5 was also a horrible experience as well, but that's another story.

but you see 100% of the people that have installed the new 5.1 beta say it works so it obviously works, and theres only a few of them because they have developer accounts.

trust me it is not a rumor guys 5.1 works like a charm, now all we have to do is wait and see how fancy apple is going to slip the fix in the new update i wonder.....

theyre probably going to say they added more languages to siri or something covering the real actual fix to shut us up because everyone will be happy after that.

users with 100% working phones will be yay more languages in siri and us angry customers will be like yay outgoing calls work again.

I updated my phone to 5.1 beta 2 and it did not solve this issue. Perhaps the final iteration will fix this software issue once and for all. Apple Store geniuses wanted me to pay for the repairs as I was OOW, how ridiculous is that? I update my phone and that update eliminates call functionality and it's supposed to be my fault?

That Galaxy Nexus is looking pretty good right about now.

did you reset it to factory settings before installing the beta? because it seems not to work when you just upgrade it right away from iTunes

Got News... If you disable Siri, in any language and then Reboot your phone by pressing at the same time Home and Block Buttom, till the apple appears... make a phone call and... then... problem solved

When you close Phone.app (from tasks bar) and dial number again, no sound bug appears more often (every 2-3 calls).

To people who said iOS 5.1 beta 2 install did not solve the audio issue:

Have you made a clean install in "DFU Mode" and set-up as a new iphone?

Because, I did it in that way, and since than I have not had any more no-audio problem.

I have a white 16g 4s and have audio issues. Ive had the phone for less than 3 months and its getting worse. It especially does it when im using bluetooth. I called apple and the tech acted like only a few users are having this problem and in a snyde way tried to say that its user error. He stated that they have not recieved many complaints at all about this issue. Im also experiencing text message send failures, as well as contact info loss. I never had these issues with my other 2 iphones.
