Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

I have the same problem on a white 16g 4s. No audio on outgoing call that fixes after pressing speaker on and off. After a while the problem reverses: The speaker is set to on and I can hear the other side but they can't hear me when speaking. This get's fixed only by restarting the phone. It is annoying and I really hope they'll fix this error.

Got News... If you disable Siri, in any language and then Reboot your phone by pressing at the same time Home and Block Buttom, till the apple appears... make a phone call and... then... problem solved

Tried to do this several times - the defect still remains...

Same problem here 4S 16gb... No sound when calling and the weirdest thing happens when during the "silence", I'm sticking a pair of headphones and it doesn't recognize that the jack is in. Pressing speaker will not activate it only at deactivation the speaker kicks in. Ah, and it was connected at the PC the whole time.

The most basic function of a phone is not working, now that is something... I would have been better off with an iPod...

I've been following this thread with some interest for weeks since my mother's iPhone 4S is also giving her this problem. Now that online news media sources are starting to pick up on this, I really hope Apple is working on a fix. This is a very serious issue.

Would all of you that are having this problem please call apple and complain!!!!!!! Like I wrote in my previous post, the tech guy claims that very few people have reported an issue, and the ones that reported it were having the problem as a result of something that they did to cause it. I think all of us know that this is not the case. When I told him that I've seen blogs with thousands of people complaining of the same problem, he gave me one of those "I haven't heard of that" answers. I too have to competely turn my phone off and back on to clear the problem. I had to tell the tech that I have been an iPhone owner for 4 years and this is the first one I've had an issue with so that he would stop trying to treat me like I don't know what I'm doing with the phone. I have also experienced data loss with my phone as well. Everyother week, I have to input my wifes contact info back into my phone. I have no idea how much data I have lost. My wife is in my favorites so I am aware when her info dissapears. BUT PLEASE COMPLAIN TO APPLE SO THAT THEY WILL FIX THIS!!

I agree with you, but regarding the experience you had with Apple Tech Support, it sounds like the agent was playing dumb. After 121 pages of discussion, the AppleCare staff must be acquainted with this issue. They're most likely trained to play dumb, act like they haven't heard it or that it's probably not something being experienced by a lot of people. This is part of Apple's SOP for dealing with problems that aren't single isolated incidents on the one hand but which also aren't chronically widespread across the entire installed base. We certainly need to stay on top of this matter (and people should be archiving the threads about it in case they get deleted), but we have to accept the limited options we have for the time being: Either complain at an Apple Store and get a refurb or wait to see if the problem is cured by the next firmware release.

I have a white 16g 4s and have the same problem. In fact, it happened on my very first outgoing call standing in the store. Anyway, just got off the phone with Apple, they were very nice, guy acted like he had heard this a lot. He said to restore factory settings and if this didn't work I could get a replacement. Like I said, it happened on my first outgoing call sooo....looks like I'll be getting a new phone. Great. Good luck everyone.

I have exactly the same problem here in New Zealand. Switching to speaker and then back worked for me. Last week the problem got worse -- it happened to both incoming and outgoing calls. When I pickup the call/make a outgoing call the speaker button is already on. I can hear the peroson who I am calling/caller but they cannot hear me. It was fixed by rebooting the phone, but I really don't want it to happen again!
