Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

I have been experiencing some audio issues.  It started after having the phone for a bit.  I want to say after about two months. The audio when I am on the phone is horribly low.  I have to turn it up all the way to even be able to somewhat her the call. The next issue began just the other day where even with the sound on when I go into an app the sound is off.  I can fix this by flipping the switch off and on again.  I am attempting a restore to see if that helps. Anyone else run into the same issue?

I think if this was a hardware problem you will experience it 100% of the time in outgoing and incoming calls , VoIP programs & calling using siri but it only happens to me in outgoing calls anyways i'm waiting till 5.1 rolls out if it doesn't fix it I will go back to my galaxy s2

uhmmm unfortunately i went today to my carriers office and they told me that, effectively it's a hardware problem and all users with that problem, should back up their information, and try to re-changed to apple or your local carriers provider... and they add me to the list of people with the same issue. they will change my iphone for (free) a brand new one, different serial number, different everything .. so i highly recommend that you visit your local carrier or apple store... because they are actually changing all the phones with the issue, it has something to do with the connection with the anthena of your carrier (or that's what they told me) from the iphone and it has to be replaced... so Good luck

I'm not certain I would put much into what anyone with any carrier has to say about any phone issue. Until Apple comes out and says its hardware I'm not sold.  Anything to do with the antenna doesn't ad up to an audio problem in my opinion, but who am I to say?

I've had this issue no less than 10 times in the last 4 hours. So sad. Wife has no problems on Verizon, I'm on AT&T. I have apologized so many times to people over the last month for why I am talking and they can't hear me. It's a conversation every time about a broken iphone. The antenna thing is trivial compared to this flaw. Offering cases for the antenna thing would not nearly make up for this. I love iphone, but if this were any other manufacturer I'd have run over the thing with my car.

I've the same issue w/my iphone 4. I've just upgraded to 5.0.1 and the microphone is not working anymore. It's working when using FaceTime, Memo or any other VOiP application. I've restored it 3 times but haven't succeed.

    - Is there a way to move bak to 4.3.x?

    - Any workaround?

I have bought my 4S 32G from New York last December. It was manufactured week 49 of 2011 and I used it on Jordanians Faslink, Israeli Pelephone, and Palestinian Jawal. I have restored it more than 3 times, and I have found the Audio problem with all netwarks and restore didn't help at all.

I feel betrayed by Apple, as I don't know if I can replace this in Israel,  Palestine or even Jordan, and I'm not going to the states any time soon. So I am stuck with the problem, unit apple aknowladges it or makes a FIX

Same problem in Russia on MobileTeleSystems.

When I try to call to someone, in 1 of 10 cases timer starts ticking but I can't hear anything, and the other side too. If th Phone app is launched, the issue occurs rarely. But sometimes it occurs every call!

Will try to change it, but we don't have Apple Store in Russia, so it should be difficult.

I'll report, if they say something useful.

Probably, it's good idea to create something like online petition where decieved iPhone 4S users could try to draw attention to the problem.

I didnt calculate a ratio like one to ten, but once it happens, it keeps on for all the calls afterwards, so I end up restarting the device, and that doesn't always solve.

Your only way is wait for iOS 5.1 and if it will not help, to go to the UK or US to apple store for replacement. MTS will send you away for sure.
