Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

Ржунимагу. Forget about any support in Russia. You'll be bullshitted only. You paid for nothing and MTS like others "great three" will for their money and that's it.

I have the same audio problem. I'm upset a brand like apple, doesn't respond to these kind of complaints. The operator in my country doesn't know any news regarding this issue, and it's been a month since I left my US600 phone in Technical support. (The company tells me there are no phones available to replace my "broken" one) I was completely loyal to the brand until now.

Same problem on my new iPhone 4S, 32GB, unlocked version. I'm chiming in to add to the number of complainants in hopes the size of the problem gets Apple to figure out the solution. Part of the frustration is the randomness, but at least most of the time this happens the speaker phone on/off trick works.

Have the same problem on my Iphone 4s(5.0.1, 16GB)!

Sent it to Apple, but they returned it and said that this phone is according Apple Quality Standards and they can not find this failure :-(

But problem still exists, for a phone that costs 624 Euros this is an unacceptable issue, so I thinking of returning it!

    Hi all

Some new information that I found out today from an old classmate of mine who lucky for me is working at the Service Center of my carrier. The issue is 100% HARDWARE. I was (like most people here) convinced it was software and I was prepared to wait for a fix in 5.1 but after today's discussion I'm not waiting anymore.

He explained to me that it is a faulty sound amplifier (or pre-amplifier?) in about 5-6% of 4S phones. Basically their iPhone 4S return rate is 8% and most of these are related to this issue. Something to do with the electrical current passing from these amplifiers not being stable. He  told me that Apple did not explain this to them, they basically did some tests by themselves on the phones that were returned. Apple is however changing all phones that are returned by the carrier with this issue without question so they definitely know that it IS an issue.

Of course there is always the chance that the replacement could be faulty, but keep returning and eventually you will get a working phone.

Unfortunately for me he ran out of replacement phones for now, so I have to wait until a new shipment of replacement phones is sent. Until then, I am getting used to pressing the Speaker button twice before a call.

what a load of rubbish no one from a outsource centre who are not authorised to even take the iphone apart knows this.  stop winding people and lets see what people who have 5.1 beta have to save, its more likley to be software then hardware because of the inconsistency of it.

Ok. So as I said this problem was present 1 out of 10 to 50 calls.

However I find a way to trigger it every time. Clean the recent calls (every one) enable BT (no need to connect to BT handsfree) and dial one number.

If already connected to BT handsfree, disable BT, clean recent calls and dial a number. Every first dial is muted on my iPhone.

How can this be HW problem?! Not sure! Tomorrow I will go and ask for replacement and do the test above before accepting the new device.

I think this explanation is plausible.  I am due to go into apple and replace my 6th iphone4s for this problem... sheesh!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, you are free to believe what you like, I am however convinced by what I heard and I intend to return/exchange the phone. I don't see why I should wait for 5.1 if Apple is happy take back my faulty phone and give me another one!

By the way, regarding 5.1, I am sure I remember a few people on this forum already mentioning that 5.1 beta did NOT fix the problem for them.
