Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

Be patients, i can see that a lot of people the firmware 5.1 beta 3 solved the problem, wait for this version, think it will solve.

Someone else with beta 3 solved the problem?

    Thanks

I've been having the same issue with my phone and I'm running iOS 5.0.1. About 1 outgoing call out of 10 has no sound, and it does not seem Siri related to me since I hardly use Siri. I have disabled "Raise to speak" and still have the problem. Toggling 'Speaker' works. I had a 3G before and never had this issue. I hope 5.1 solves this issue because there are no Apple stores in Belgium to do an immediate exchange if it's a hardware issue.

Try the following, it has fixed the invalid sim problem on my phone. It might fix your audio problem.

I believe that I have found a temporary solution for the "Invalid Sim/No Sim Card Installed" issue on the iPhone 4S. The beta 3 of iOS 5.1 completely restored my iPhone's functionality. No drops, no "No SIM" messages.

For those who are not afraid, you can install the beta firmware even if you do not have developer account with Apple. You should Google and download "iPhone4,1_5.1_9B5141a.ipsw" or go here: http://www.multiupload.com/UN5F70GHG0, and then go to iTunes, hold shift and then press Update (not Restore!) and select the downloaded firmware.

After this is done your iPhone will be updated to the iOS 5.1 beta 3, iPhone will remain registered, all installed applications will remain untouched.

Make sure to backup before this operation. Also, you can downgrade back to iOS 5.0.1.

I replaced my phone a 4S three times and then got a new one, not a replacement and it's working fine now (about two weeks). It maybe a software problem but I'm using the lastest version ios 5.0.1 and haven't had any problems. I use my phone all day long. I think it's a hardward problem and if your close to a store just demand a new phone and check it right in the store. Goodluck all

This is really outrageous. Don't they know that people have other things in life to do than keep replacing their phones everyday because of the tons of defects in their phones? And what kind of support is this where customers reply to each other without any official statement or help from any employee? are we supposed to fix their manufacturing defects by ourselves? this is the last time i'm ever getting an apple product. They don't deserve wasting our most precious asset which is our time. I live in egypt and i cann't get a replacement as there's no official apple store here. How am i supposed to get a replacement now? ship it over to the states and wait for months to get another replacement that may also be defective? GOSH!!!!! this is really getting on my nerves!!

Try to turn off sim pin code (settings, phone, sim-pin-code off). Then restart. The safety on the phone is anyway kept by using a code on the phone. We have had similar problems at work, and it has helped...

Where did you get it from?

    What should we do now?

This is really driving me crazy. I now lost the basic function of a phone which is making  phone calls and hearing the other party.

I regret the day I ever thought of getting an iPhone.

Apple should stick to manufacturing what they do best which is iPods and stay away from the mobile phone industry. Period.

I'm assuming its the 3G antenna thats been problematic. I switched off 3G after installing iOS 5.1 beta 3 - they readded the toggle in settings. So far so good. Do spread the word. People should definitely give this ago if they have any issues.

I got it from el serag mall & I had this problem from day one , unfortunately there is nothing we can do now except waiting for IOS 5.1 which might solve the problem if not I'll sell it , this is really dissapointing I've been an iphone user since the 3g got the 3gs and 4 never encountered any problems with them apple always had this excellent quality with their products unlike any other brand but this is the worst iphone yet even a simple thing as a phone call can't be done properly
