Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

For those having the outgoing call, no audio problem, just toggle the speaker button on and then off after you dial and you will be able to hear the audio.  I was frustrated by this problem for weeks, then saw the workaround on this site.  Try it.  It works.  After a while, it becomes a habit.  Hopefully, its a software fix.

If you on the Mac you should hold Alt instead of Shift button to activate the downloaded firmware 5.1 Beta 3.

Audio problem too. I'm going bananas with this issue. From December the phone call issue began to occur. I had to make the call two times before I could hear them. Now, I have to do it three times before connected.

Tapping the speaker button did not work on my phone,  Nor did any other "trick",  You could squash the bug for a few calls at best, but like real roaches, it kept coming back.

If you purchased the 4s through the Apple Store or a carrier, returning your phone for a full refund is the only 100% sure way to exterminate this problem.  At the same time, it sends a clear message to Apple that they need to get their act together.

I may be dreaming, but if Jobs was still around, I'm pretty sure he would be cracking some heads right now.

I don't have any problems with incoming calls when on EDGE (3G OFF), may be your carrier fault?

But this draining is insane...2-3% per hour idle!

I've tested today turning 3G off and using EDGE. No problem with incoming calls.

    Well guys and girls,

I updated to 5.1 beta 3 and the audio bug was no longer there.  I used it for 2 days and made numerous calls trying to get no audio on outgoing calls, I could not.  I tried everything to make it happen but the phone worked every time.  At the same time, I noticed numerous bugs with 5.1 beta 3.  Siri would work once, but then I couldn't use her again.  Also, once I received an incoming call, after I pressed END to disconnect, the iPhone would return to home screen but have the green banner at the top to return to call, even though the call was disconnected.  Long story short, I downgraded to 5.0.1 because pressing speaker phone was less of an issue that the rest of the bugs.  Also, once I downgraded, I had no audio on the second outgoing call I made.

Regardless of whether this is software or hardware, I feel that 5.1 will fix it.

    Cheers,

    Brandyn

I have paid cash 1200 lv. ( 1lv = $0,655). After two weeks I went to my carrier Globul, Bulgaria and asked for fix my microfone bug (can't hear me).

They told me there is no IPhone 4S 16gb white  and now I'm waiting. This Is freaking ridiculous!

This morning I went to the Apple Store where I booked a Genius Bar. I explained all calls problems and they simply replaced my iPhone with a black boxed one (only phone, no accessories). I checked serial number and it's related to December 2011, w49.

Of course, before I went out, I tried to make a lot of call: with earphones, without them, after Siri's activation ecc. All worked properly, only a little echo related to earphones' microphone near to my mouth.

Of course I'll keep try, even syncronizing with iTunes and I will keep you informed. I think it's hardware related.

I think we will not know if it is hardware or software issue until Apple inform us.

I fixed this audio issue with installing 5.1 beta. Someone fixed it only with a new iphone.
