Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

Yes, beta 3 wipes away this issue completely. I believe this is a software glitch if there is a way to be fixed by software update..

Second day with no OCNA problems at all..

i think it is related to IOS because the driver level handle the hardware, and with change on driver or OS behaivor it can be fix, even if it is the hardware problem changing the driver or IOS can be fixed it

Question to those, who have successfully installed iOS 5.1 beta 3:

Did you restore your phone as a new one or just installed the update on top of 5.0.1?

How do I obtain an IOS 5.1 Beta edition?  Genius Bar would not provide access.  Instead, after two complete clean wipes and restores as new phones, when the phone/audio/bluetooth problem persisted, they replaced the 4S (from a 'black box'), and the phone has functionned perfectly since.  Does 5.1 Beta have any other benefits, like battery life or improving Siri intelligence?

I am getting tired of all these bugs and issues, They say "Best Phone Ever", yet I keep having issues, with the latest being, I can not call people using contacts, or dial pad. Let me clarify, I can use it but I hear nothing, no audio. I have read on many forums different suggestions, hit speaker button then handset, do hard reboot, which I have done. It worked for a bit, then does it again. Oh, I need to mention, this is my second phone, first one was deemed defective after restore, and that was on other bugs, 3G, emails, and more. I was a Blackberry user for over 10 years, and although they had their problems, never have I had to spend so much time trying to get this thing to work. They must think we have nothing better to do than read forums and see what others are having problems with and how to fix them. What are the developers jobs suppose to do? They release a product that has had way to many things wrong with it, very disappointed,

I have 4s 32 gb.....hopefully someone at apple will be working on the MANY issues this phone has and send out an update soon

So just adding one to the list I guess. Figured the more people report, the higher the chance Apple actually does something about it.

Have had my phone (16Gb 4S) for about 2 months now, and since I also changed network I thought that would be what's causing it. Now I found out it's quite a widespread problem with the 4S, so I hope we'll all have a permanent fix soon.

    improving Siri intelligence?

SIRI fixes and updates are done at the Apple Server level, not IOS updates, and is an ongoing process from Apples end.

Same issue with my iphone 4s 16g bought in Belgium. 1/3 of my outgoing calls have no audio, I can hear people only if I trun on the speaker or redo the call! However, I don't have any audio problem when I make calls with apps such as Skype, viber or line.

I went to an apple service center, they said that maybe a software problem and suggest me to restore! Then I restored my iphone... it didn't work! I also change my microsim... it didn't work neither! Now my iphone is delivered to SBE... Hope the prblem can be resolved.

my first iphone... makes me disappointed

I have the exact problem with serial number of C38. Every time using ear plug it goes to speaker and mute on my side. I can hear the other side but they could not hear me.

Also, when I am not using ear plug, sometimes (20-30% chance), when the phone line is connected (At least shown on the screen), neither side can hear the other side, even the connecting tone could not be heard on my side. This is not happening all the time, that is why the genius team could not reproduce in their 3mins service time. Still did not find out a general rule as to when/where this will happen, it seems to be random and not carrier network related, since after each incident, I black-out and re-log-in, and will make a good call.

Please help as most of my calls are international and biz related. It is ruining my biz and wasting my international call mins!

    Good morning,

and I must report a similar problem. During the call the person you are talking to me did hear nothing. When switching to the speaker, everything is fine. FaceTime also working properly.

iPhone 4S 16GB bought in Poland in Orange mobile operator.

I had the same problem with my iphone 4s. Bought in Slovakia within T-Mobile operator. Only toggling the speaker icon helped. I took it to the operator who sent it for service. After a week I received a new phone and the problem is gone. The new device works properly. So, my advise is not to wait for a new software release but for those who can just replace the phone. I guess it's a hardware issue.

I am having the same issue here in Nigeria. None of the suggested solutions works for me. Does anyone know how I can get the ios 5.1 beta 3 update?
