Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

I did work with the apple care people as well as the apple store people...  A little respect please and just acknowledge there is a problem .  I am a resonable person, I understand startup problems... but come on, don't treat us like idiots, really?

Can everyone who is upset with Apple not addressing this issue PLEASE do their part and go write a quick note on Apple's Feedback page for the iPhone to let them know that we are all upset about this.

Please go here and leave a short note: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

    Thank you!

I just send a link to this tread to a couple of the Apple interested magazines. I surgest that others do the same - to hopefully get some writing about the issue - to push Apple......

my unlock white 32g 4s from LA apple store have same "outgoing calls no audio" issue right out of the box,

try everything eg. DFU restore etc. NO LUCK

quite annoying with this suppose-to-be a high tech smart phone but can"t even handle what a phone suppose to act like,

    please apple,do something about this

    thankyou

from a very disappointed user of the original iphone & 3gs

I'm from Singapore too and got my iPhone on 28th Oct. It worked fine for a bit until I noticed the lack of audio from the other end when I placed a call. It happened once or twice during the day and now it's consistently happening.

However, the solution, it would seem is what's been prescribed earlier in the forum. So for the benefit of newcomers to this thread:

TURN THE SPEAKER OFF AND ON.

It doesn't work perfectly but it increases the chance of a successful call.

I guess I'll be waiting for Apple to release a statement or more likely, quietly release a software update to patch the problem...

I spoke to apple care last night. When I told them I'd setup my iPhone 4s from backup settings stored on icloud they said there have been problems with that. They told me not to do a DFU restore - just restore the phone from iTunes and then setup as a new phone. I did that.  So far, the problem has not occurred again.  They also offered to replace the phone if I have the problem again.

OK, I've just posted 'news tips' to Gizmodo, Engadget and iLounge with a link back to this discussion. Let's see if we can get some media attention on this issue. You can add another friend of mine in Washington, DC who told me yesterday that she's taking her 4s back to the Apple store this morning for this same issue.

Let's just hope that getting some media attention will allow Apple to expedite a fix! Still going to the Apple store on Saturday to see about a replacement. $50 worth of gas to get a replacement of a phone that probably isn't going to fix anything... great...

I just wanted to follow up my original post to let you know that it does *not* seem to work for me to toggle my speaker button. I still hear nothing. When it happened to me yesterday again, I noticed a weird mechanical "ping" sometime during the connection of the call...but that's all I heard. I toggled the speaker button on, still heard nothing. The person receiving the call also heard nothing.

On my way to return my 64gb and Apple Care coverage now. Going back to my slow iP4 until I'm able to make calls on the new one.

When you think of it, apple is knowingly selling a defective phone to hundreds of thousands of ppl each day with impunity. it's letting customers give up their old properly functioning iPhones for the new 4S without acknowledging that this problem.

This fix did not work for me.  I restored as a new phone and didn't even set up the icloud and got same outgoing audio issue....

Went to Apple store. Since I bought on the Apple Website they won't let me return the device in the store. Manager was very friendly though.

Well, I certainly hope you had a 'bad' manager because I was told by Apple tech that I should go to the store for the return (I also purchased on the website) - perhaps I should make a call before I make a 2 hour drive and get really angry...
