Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

"I'm currently running 5.0.1(9A405) which my iTunes says is upto date?"

If you back up your phone in iTunes and restore again, the iPhone is automaticly updated to build 9A406.

(Please find the right way to way to do it).

I got a replacement for a replacement whose battery burned out. The last replacement started having the no audio issue on outgoing calls. I called tech support, and this thime asked to speak with a higher level tech rep. The lady I talked to was really nice and listened to me. She looked at my history and I found out something interesting that the first four phones I had gone through with various problems were are from the same batch of phones even the original one I had sent to me on release day. She said it was possible that there was a bad batch. She then told me that she would send me a totally brand new phone from the factory and that she wanted me to stay in contact with her to see if this new one has problems. I got it today, and have used it heavily today. I have not had any sign of problems so far. The version is 5.0.1 (9A406). I don't know how to tell by the serial number when it was made. I hope this one does not have problems. I would reccomend if you call Apple tech, you ask to talk to a supervisor tech rep. Don't demand, just explain the issue and calmly explain how frustrating it has been. They do want to help.

You could use the following site to determine the production date:

    http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

btw: I am heavily suffering from the OCNA issue as well running iOS 5.0.1 (9A406) on an iPhone 4S 16GB black manufactured in October. I hope the iOS release 5.1 will arrive soon as I am using the phone for business purposes.

Hi to all frustrated iPhone users. Like you my 4s has just started to show these symptoms of no audio on voice calls.

I had mine delivered on day of release and upto now had had no problems. I bought my girlfriend one last month and she has had no problems at all.

I just thought I'd add my name to the growing list in the hope that Apple would recognise and solve the problem before they start to loose a significant amount of users!

Let's hope it is just a software update that is needed and the release date is soon.

Yes, I agreed with u. I also thought to buy an new iphone 4s to my wife. But, I changed my mind because my 4s also got problem then how am i going to persuade my wife & myself to buy an new iphone 4s??!!

Somemore now the Samsung Galaxy Note is **** hot with competitive price.

So, we hope that Apple should officially announce that what is the actual problem occurred & the solution for us as soon as possible. Don't let us keep on wasting our time, money & energy for guessing & testing this & that!!

as i said already, its a torrent file. you need to run the file using uTorrent software to get the "iPhone4,1_5.1_9B5141a_Restore.ipsw".

Hope you are getting what I am trying to say.

Hi teach5, have u checked your production date, generation & factory via website provided by duhu?

    http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

Can u share with us your finding?

I read from above website ( then click on:

    Technical specifications by apple-history.com)

also that the max OS is only IOS 5.0.2. So, in your experience, does Apple will really officially release IOS 5.1 or just IOS 5.0.2 only?

Update here (from a few pages back). I had given up on speaker switch toggle 'trickery', waiting for Apple annoucements on OCNA problem etc.etc. and decided to just send back my phone via Apple Care replacement over their support website.        Delivered it prepaid to UPS on last Thursday afternoon, received delivery email from Apple service on Friday morning, Saturday replacement phone sent email received, yesterday replacement phone arrived.  Pretty darn good turn around.  Even better . . . . . so far the phone is working as it should.  Time will tell, but for now at least I'm a lot less fearful of every call I make being a dud.  Is it new or refurb?  I sure as heck can't tell . . . . but it works.  (Came foamed & plastic wrapped in a plain white generic 'iPhone' box).  Will update here as needed.
