Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

I'm having the SAME problem.  It happened after I put a new incase phone cover on my 4S (which I bought from the Apple Store today)... I tried to make 3 calls, they could hear me-but I didn't even hear a ring tone.  My neighbour had the same problem with her 4S and took it to the Genius Bar and they told her that it was a problem with the iPhone thinking it had head phones in.

I took the case off, took the sim out and replaced it again then cleared all active apps and did a hard reset, but it didnt change, so I tried putting the apple headphones/mic in and the phone worked, and when I unplugged it the problem seemed resolved.  When I re-snapped the case back on, the problem re-emerged again! I was able to clear it by re-inserting the headphones and making a call before removing them again to remind the phone that it didn't have them in... All is fine-but this bug clearly needs addressing!

If my neighbour had not told me about her experience I would have been very confused and concerned... Our nearest Genius bar is also about 40 miles away, so not exactly 'handy'

Hi All, Did u all notice that actually IOS 5.1 solved this issue by adding another new setting option of enabling the 3G which is always on even we have off it & restart our iphone? It'll automatically on everytime when I restart my iphone. But I can off it just after I restart my iphone & it's still working when making & receiving calls. So, I think the error / bug is there!!

I cannot believe the extent of the problem with this phone. After 10 years of solid Blackberry usage I flipped to the 4S with a phone purchased outright, less than 3 months later and this problem. No support of Apple from the firm Helpdesk so off to the Apple store. What a nightmare. They threw a new phone at me. Why isn't there a product recall? This is outrageous.

IVE FOUND THE SOLUTION!! This has been a problem for me for a while now!!

Anyhow.... Alot of replies on here said the make sure the headphone duct was clear of any dust or obstacles; HOWEVER, i found that aswell as that, i needed to clear the charger duct. Im not sure if there was dust in there too, but i found that blowing quite hard into the charger duct solved my problem. I tried many ways i saw on here, but found that the sound kept flicking on an off everytime i attached my charger. I blew into the duct to clear it and... WOL LAHHHH!!! Problem solved! I did also update my phone which apparently fixes any bugs, so hopefully i will not have this problem again!!

HOPE THIS HELPS GUYS! Let me kno :0)

some thing no one seems to have mentioned is going to setting>general>reset>reset all settings you wont lose any content it will just ask you to resetup the settings on the phone this may solve the issue also check the charger plug in and the head phone plug in for an orange color is you see that it means the water sensors have been tripped and that is a very common cause of this issue if you still are having issues after a reset of all settings and the water sensors are not tripped I suggest a restore as new so sync all your information in itunes then hit restore it may take 30-40 minutes and when its finished sync your stuff back over DO NOT RESTORE FROM A BACK UP if you do this it will just reinstall any corruption that might be in the data if the issue continiues after this it most likely is a hardware issue in which case you would want to go to your nearest apple retail store or call apple care

I had the same problem last weekend. I updated my 4S to 5.1 some days ago. Trying to solve the problem, today, I turned off bluetooth and the phone apparently is OK after that.I don't know why but maybe if bluetooth is on, the other person in outgoing calls doesn't hear anything sometimes (I had to make two or tree calls before the other person can hear me). Try that and let me know if that works for you too.

I have the same issue. Faulty iPhone software and product. ATT and Apple wont budge to confirm of this issue. They are brushing off all of their product issues, false misrepresentation. I have rebooted, reinstalled, re-everything and still the same issue. I dont have the time and pleasure to keep exchanging their product just hoping I will get lucky and it will work with the next. Their stock price is going higher and higher so they do not give a **** about the products any longer.
