Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

Blog sites are all reporting a seed of iOS 5.0.1 - the major fix - the battery issue. No specific mention of the speaker/output issue we are having, but, as usual they also list "...several bug fixes..."

No exact date other than (in a few weeks) as to when it can be expected for download.

Yeah, Engadget was busy talking about how buggy the Gmail native app is, very important.

Macrumors, Mashable, Engadget, TechCrunch and even Gizmodo got it's act together now, all part of the axis of Apple. Pretty genius when you think of it, you don't behave we don't invite you to product launches, a cosey relationship.

I have a iPhone 4s, on Telus network in Canada.  Telus support has not been good, they say it is an apple issue and asked me to phone Apple for support.  Nobody can tell me if it is a hardware issue, or a software issue.  I've reset the device back to factory defaults numerous times, turned Bluetooth and SIRI off and I still have phone call issues.  Sometimes the caller can't hear me, sometimes I can't hear them.

    Frustrated...  Apple please help.

Dont hold your breath, Apple is not helping, you've invested over $700 in a product now you'll be treated like an idiot, you're the only one who has the proble, even though this is the hottest discussion on this support forum. Welcome to the club.

I'm starting to question whether there is a point to having an Apple Support forum, Apple is not responding, they're just deleting the stuff they don't like being posted here and they have deleted several of my posts and edited some of my posts instead of writing something of their own, not even a "We're hearing your complaints and we're looking into the problem."

I am having simillar issues...Received my 4S 32Gb on pre-order delivery date, use a Motorola H17 blue tooth...Frequently lose audio over the blue tooth, when it happens the speaker button is highlighted in blue, but pressing that, iphone, or the blue tooth button does not fix it.  Have tried closing the blue tooth boom mic and restarting the blue tooth service, but the only thing that fixes mine, is powering the phone off and than back on.  Full power off, not just hitting the power button.

I cannot seem to replicate the issue, it happens intermittently.  I have an appointment with the Genius Bar for Saturday, but I don't know how I can replicate this.  The other issue is periodically a call will sound so bad over BT that is almost digital static.  If I hang up and redial it usually corrects that issue.

Have also had calls not show up on voice mail until hours later...(Verizon)...

Came from a Droid X, and so far, I am disappointed...although as a long time droid user, this is a far better phone in my opinion...

I really hope that this terrible and stupid "outgoing call no audio" issue is fixed in iOS 5.0.1 ?????!!!!!!!!

I have decided - so far - that I won't go and have a replacement 4S - as I don't want to risk the defeat to get another 4S with the same issue - after waiting at least one week. I count on a fix in the iOS update!

Im with Telus in Canada and having the same issue. Im not sure if its Siri/sofware issues or hardware issue. Ive been debating if I should go to Appple and see if they could reaplce if it indeed is a hardware issue. If its software, i guess it can wait till 5.0.1, if it gets fixed at all

if this is a software issue, why other 4s' are not affected. this could be more a manufacturing or component issue. just wondering why this could not be  detected during final testing. if apple is assembling so many 4s a day, it is probably just doing some sample test versus 100% test.

maybe this "outgoing call no audio" issue only appears under certain circumstances. probably all the user playing around with siri settings and stuff like this are affected. I also think that most people having this problem don't care about it, because they think there is something wrong on the provider side.

I think it has something to do with the approximation sensor and the switching between speaker/headphone/mic...

Hopefully it is a software bug!

Wether it´s a software issue or a hardware issue does not really mather if Apple won´t admit to it.

I have always been a huge Apple fan, but now im starting to loose my patience.

    Just deal with it already!!

I completely agree with you. I for one will not wait for Apple to figure out if it's a hardware or software issue and go past my full refund date to have my device replaced for a refurbished phone. When that deadline arrives, the iPhone 4S is going back to the Apple store and I am going to buy an Android. Enough is enough, if Apple can't say anything about the #1 topic in the support forum then it doesn't deserve my business.

This forum is useless, please join the facebook page perhaps this will get some attention from the media, which is also btw part of the Apple marketing machine.
