Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

    installed iOS 5.0.1 Beta 2:

    3. Earbuds functionality fail.

Plug in the ear buds jack. Try to place a call (call landline for example to get feedback of what happens at the other end). As soon as you get connected, you will see that the phone switches to speaker mode, the speaker button on the screen turns blue and will not respond to touch if trying to switch back to the earbuds.

    seems to be fixed^^

yes, since 3 weeks. after updating to 5.0.1 beta 2 the 2nd outgoing call had no audio, rest (about 10 so far) was fine.

This sounds real postive I have had no outgoing call audio since I got my 4S a week and a half ago the only thing that makes it work is to toggle speaker phone on and off.

Have had my replacement iPhone 4s since 10:30a this morning. Have made about 25 outgoing calls in various locations, situations - with and without bluetooth - before and after using Siri. So far the problem hasn't showed itself. Will check back in over the next couple of days. I'm not getting excited just yet, but so far it's positive.

For the record, I did NOT restore from a backup. I set up the phone as new and synced everything from scratch.

    We will see.

I had the same exact issue with my 4S. Not sure if this is a widespread issue. Turned out to be a hardware problem and got a replacement phone (not sure whether it is brand new or reconditioned)

After replacement my phone works perfectly. I have noticed one more thing. My first 4s had issues not only calling issues, but it looks like battery life issue too - it would hold only about a day. My new replacement phone last almost 2 days without charging (today I got home and the battery was still 10%). So it definately last longer than my 3GS.

not sure if it was sealed. looked like a black box with just the phone inside.

Well chalk up another victim to the "No Audio Gate" ....  45 minute phone call followed by a Genius appointment tonight.  They are going to replace my phone after a bit of a fight.  They cannot promise the new phone will not do the same thing and they also have no idea if it is actually a hardware or a software issue.  Not pleased at all... if this one fails I may just return to my 4 and just wait for the 5 (A few months after realease this time, just so they fix the bugs.....).

Using Siri once directly from the phone has fixed the issue for me, at least temporarily. Time will tell if this issue will crop up again.

I'd like to add some details

    (1) I got my phone from day one.. other than sometimes my bluetooth not registering immediately, the phone has worked perfectly..even not much of battery performance issue - although perhaps i haven't used the phone extensively enough

    (2) I experienced this for the first time tonight on an outgoing call.. reboot or upgrade to ios 5.0.1 beta 2 (im a dev) did NOT fix this problem, although battery performance does seem better with beta1 (too early to tell for beta 2)

    (3) i read in this thread (an early post) that one person had found that if they used Siri once directly and that it fixed the problem.

    (4) I did NOT attempt to plug in headphones and remove or reinsert them to try and reset the audio. In addition, speaker always worked. I also did NOT have my bluetooth handy to test it.

    (5) The caller could hear ME fine, despite not being able to hear him.

    (6) Raise to speak has been off prior to to discovering this problem (and I did not attempt to change that)

That's it for now - hope this helps some of you.

Simple solution that seems to work:

    Disable BLUETOOTH

I also disabled siri, but this does not seem to solve the problem
