Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

I have this issue with the outgoing call and not being able to hear the person!

Its so annoying and causing me a right pain as this is my only work phone and I run my company off it! arrrrhhrhhrhrhr

I keep having to apologies to people all the time and toggle the speaker on and off but you end up forgetting.

What am I meant to do about it? It seems getting a new iphone is not a fix?

CRAZY apple im losing faith in you!

I have the same problem here in Denmark.

So Dear Apple, please tell us... Should we wait for an update or should we hurry up and

    exchange the brand new 4S

Got my replacement phone today. No questions asked, one and a half weeks to get it. I am in Belgium and exchanges and repairs are handled by Mobistar.

Everything seems to work ok now. About 20 calls or so, no failure.

My recommendation, go and get your phone exchanged.

i've had my iphone 4s 16gb for about 3 weeks now, and haven't experienced a single problem.  my phone is 100% perfect (thank goodness), aside from minor issues related to battery life, which apple will surely fix soon.

i feel for you all, and wonder, could it be that a particular batch of phones is affected? perhaps you guys should post the first 5 digits of your serial number to see what factory your phones were assembled in, and also what week your phone was made.  there must be a common theme.

Totally unacceptable wait 3 weeks for 4S to arrive and this audio crap comes with it......

Why are your customers being your unpaid quality control department......

not so long since motorola dominated the phone market and embarked on this type of behaviour and lost!!!!

    **UPDATE**

From November 1st throught Novemeber 22nd I went through FIVE (5) iPhone 4S's. Tried the exchange each time. All with same PRL # 510xxx. My carrier Sprint sells the iPhones with PRL # 52xxxx. Must be something wrong with the first batch. Nobody will own up to it, such a shame!

Needless to say I requested a refund and will not deal with this issue any longer. I tried owning one. One would think that somebody along the way would have asked me if eveything was alright. ****, even a $20 iBook credit would have went a long way for all my trouble.

So mad about this issue that I will be taking a few other apple products back to this same apple store for refunds as well.

    Another (now) happy user.

I had a new phone sent out via Apple's Express Replacement Service and am glad to report that the new phone has no issues.

Before swapping out I reset network connections - same problem, reset all user data - same problem, restored from an iTunes backup - same problem, restored from an iCloud backup - same problem, set up as a new phone - same problem.

Only a hardware swap-out resolved my issue.

I have had an iphone for 3 years now just got the 4s. I am having the same problems EVERYDAY and it is so frustrating. This is the worst phone I have ever had and am thinking about switching. The new iOS update did not but screw with my phone more it seem. I am growing more upset with Apple everyday and expected more from this company, what a shame and disappointment their response has been to this issue.

Just got mine last Friday and the problem is there also, applying to 1/3 of outgoing calls. The phone doesn't make a sound while apparently dialing, then the clock starts to run suggesting there is a connection, but neither me nor the recipient can hear anything.

I can't BELIEVE Apple puts out products with problems this vast, and even worse, haven't addressed the issue nor come up with a solution! I am so disappointed in the way this has (not) been handled and most definitely Apple's throne is crumbling. These are the issues that make or break a mobile phone manufacturer.

I got mine this Monday and as soon as i tried to call someone, the same thing happened, and continued to do so for about 1/3 of the time I make calls. I really dont know what to do because in Romania i've waited for this phone to be delivered for over a month now... If i take it back I will, for sure, wait another month to get a new one. I really, really, really hope it's a software glitch that is going to be solved...

It would be very helpfull for us if Apple would just say something about this problem.

I posted a few days ago with same prob. tried everything , but in the end had to trudge back to the store...(london westfield) where they replaced it. since then, no problems at all , even the battery life seems like a normal phone now, and is lasting me most of the day.  what amazes me is that no one in the store said they were aware of the problem. may be true of course, but in light of everything I've heard and read...it sill amazes me. I also expressed my massive irritation about calling their new voice activated apple care number before i went to the store. Not only is it a tedious voice recognition service now, that struggled massively with my accent...when i did eventually get through...the 1st thing they wanted to do before even listening to my problem, was sell me extended warranty!!!.  The whole brand of apple is loosing its shine for me.  By the way, Siri, from a UK perspective....waste of time. Apple's defence is that its just in beta, and some of their ads make that clear.  I wish they would make it clear that may understand less than 10% of what its told to do...even just simple voice activated messages etc.  On the upside...once you get a phone that works properly...still neat bit of kit...but i really dont want to have to suffer the teething troubles that their latest releases seem to be plagued with. I'm especially less likely to do so once the other competition catches up. Which it will. Thanks

Hi, I was one of the first that got the iPhone 4S in Norway, and I got the issue as well. Anyone else in Norway got it? I will try to exchange it today.
