Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Having the same audio issue here.

Seemingly random -

• Speaker phone mode defaults while making a call with the earbuds plugged in.

• Placing calls connects with no audio... toggling the speakerphone sometimes works.

• Sometimes resstarting the phone helps.

Apple Store appointment is set for tomorrow.

SISD (Same Issue, Same Device) - up to 50% of all outbound calls w/o inbound audio, on 32GB 4S,   Restarted, rebooted, etc. - no effect.  I had zero issues with this phone until very recently (from last software update?).

I personally feel it's not related to the 5.0.1 update as my first two 4s iPhones were both 5.0 out of the box and had the issue BEFORE I installed 5.0.1. Others say it did not develop until afterwards, but the fact remains some of us had it at 5.0.

How long did you have your 4s before updating and how long after updating did the problem occur?

My 3rd 4s has not had any problems. It's at 5.0.1 now and is seemingly out of the same lot # (serial # only differs by 3 characters from my first two 4s phones)

I can confirm that this is happening with 5.0. Have not installed 5.0.1 yet.

Same problem - APPLE FIX THIS ASAP.  Or you will be recieving a lot of iphone 4s' back from some very disappointed customers.

No....I had this problem with the very first call I made on my new 4S. Thought it was just a fluke so hung up and placed the call again. Have had the phone a week now and it happens sporadically. Will be making a trip to the store this week I guess.

i have this problem also and another one. when i call someone, it automatically goes to speaker so i have to restart the phone.

my 30 days are up... will they replace the phone or am i screwed?

Same issue. iPhone 4S, 32GB, Black. Just arrived last week to replace my aging 3GS.

- No outgoing calls will work

- Outgoing calls muted/no audio, person called receives call but hears nothing

- Outgoing calls default to speaker phone

- Even outgoing calls using headset same

Tried everything recommended:

- Speakerhone on/off trick works about 50% of the time

- Mute on/off works once in a while

- Reset all settings

- Erase all content and settings

- Reset Network Settings

- Reset to original

- Reset as iPhone without restoring backup

- Calling without moving phone

- Standing on one foot and jumping in a circle (OK, that last one didn't happen, but I thought about it...)

Such a beautiful device, but with this major hiccup, pretty much useless as a phone, particularly since I use it for everything.

Will try to replace hardware with Apple online, but not happy with Apple's credit card holds. There is no Apple store locally. May just return it for a refund and go back to 3GS...

Apple really needs to acknowledge this problem and either recall the defective devices if it is hardware or pump out a software fix fast.

iPhone 3GS, 16GB.
Worked like a charm with my Ford Fiesta's handsfree BT set. Since I upgraded to 5.0.1, although it is paired and the car system recognizes the phone and that there are incoming calls (music from radio stops playing, alert showing on FF's dashboard) there is no sound coming from the speakers when I answer the phone. I have to switch to the iPhone speaker. I don't see the sources button anymore, either.
The menu showing on FF's dashboard works as it should, address book is showing as well as last dialed numbers, last incoming calls etc.
It's just a matter of audio input not working anymore.

At some point it was fixed by itself but now it's off again.

APPLE, fix this ASAP!

As someone else already wrote, fix it with a simple speaker on/off before every outgoing call, quick and dirty!!

same here from Greece. It happens in the first outgoing call after unlocking the phone. Although if i hold first the phone and dont place it on my ear i can hear the ring and then works fine...

I do not think it makes sense. All (or almost all) mentioned sources already has publication regarding 4s and 5.0 issues. The silence of Apple is strange, it my first device of Apple and I didn't expect so neglectful behavior. Lucky ones who lives near AppStores, but others?

There are also a lot of Russian sources, they also already did some publication but short. May be this could make sense because sales in Russia will start only a couple of weeks ahead.

same issue! Iphone 4S 16GB WHITE without locking (free Phone). In the first time I have the 5.0.0 OS and I have the same problem after the update to 5.0.1!
