Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

Well I am on my 5th iPhone 4s from Verizon. The fourth one was connecting successfully 19/20 calls. Better than the last one, but oh so bothersome.  Apple has been very good about not asking any questions and replacing the phone.  Hopefully it's gonna work. I can't believe I have had this much bad luck with the handsets. The Genius here in JAX says they have been getting a lot of them and that Apple is just giving the phones away (replacing)... not really a good solution... what's the etiology?

If this one doesn't do it, then I might have to argue with Verizon as a brand new customer and get another handset until these issues get resolved.

    Iphone 4s 32 GB black.

Having the exact same problem. Connected but no audi. Sometimes the speaker is activated and I can`t deactivate it.

Sometimes it helps not to put the phone to the ear and wait until the connection is complete and then put it to the ear.

    VERY annoying

Same identical issue on an Unlocked Apple Iphone 4S 32GB bought in USA using it on T-Mobile USA network. What I notice, if I press the "speaker" button twice, the sound comes back to the ear peace speaker, but I would like a permanent fix.

    Same problem here in Germany

Now I have my second iPhone 4S white 16 GB. The first had problems with the microphone and the second now has the no audio problem. Pressing the speaker button twice is fixing the problem.

My Sister has the same iPhone and I made about 25 Test-Calls... The issue never came up...

So it seems to be a hardware problem.

Tomorrow I'll go to the Apple Store and get a new one. I'll change as often as I get a working one

    Same issue as everyone else.

When I call out the the audio is dead.  Turning Speaker on and off fixes the problem.

I noticed incoming calls seem to work fine.

I tried using a Jawbone ERA BT.  But it never worked for out going calls.  It would start on the BT and then switch to speaker but even on speaker there would be no sound.

There's no apple store for 200 miles from my location. . .

Took mine back to Radio Shack tonight and exchanged it for another. They gave me no grief and were very courteous. Let's hope this one works better.

    Is this one working better?

I've got te same issue here - no audio at for outgoing calls, probably 80% of the time.

Did the replacement work for you?

So here is an update to my post regarding "no audio for outgoing calls".... I called apple and after the inital analysis, reset, etc.... the diagnostic was a "HARDWARE Problem related issue". Apple scheduled an appointment for me in a local Apple Store in which the iPhone was changed. I just finished restoring and updating it and there is no more issue with the audio and everything else is running perfectly.

same problem iPhone 4S – 16GB and on about 3 in 4 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing. Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer; I guess I'm assuming that the call has actually been made.

"Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer; "

iEMAD, when your call i answered and the timer start counting, touch the LOUD SPEAKERPHONE icon on the iPhone to turn it on, the touch it again to turn it off and VOALA the sound is back on and you can hear the other person....

The iPhone 4s forget's to turn ON the speaker when you make a call !!!!

APPLE please fix this bug ....

it's to annoying and difficult to have normal phone calls, when the other person after mine call when he hears nothing,  call's me back and say : "are you making fun of me?!" "are you kidding me" "answer the phone !!!"
