Two inboxes for my Gmail account in iPhone mail

I recently upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 and found one problem. I set up my Gmail account on my iPhone and see two inboxes for it. They are identical, I delete one mail in one inbox, the deleted mail disappear in the other inbox too. It's not a big problem just kind of annoying thing.

Does anyone here has the same problem?

Me & my wife have the same problem.

I've looked all over the Internet and have not found anyone with the problem. It's driving me nuts.

I've tried a lot of things: unisintalling the account and reinstalling it on my device just created another duplicate! I tried many things but no solution so far.

I even went to the local Apple Store and they did not have any reports of this situation. You are the first person I find with it.

Let's wait and see. Meanwhile it's driving me nuts.

Having a simular problem here. It started out with my Mail account. Whenever i got a new message, Mail would count it double, because the new email would be in both gmail's inbox as in all mail. I found that the fix for this was to uncheck 'All Mail' for IMAP in the labels tab from Gmails settings.

However, after doing this, the all mail folder on my iphone changed into an alternate inbox, just as you discribed.

So far, I haven't found a fix for this yet, other than checking the 'All Mail' box in gmails settings.

So it's the one or the other.. it's driving me nuts!

I had the same issue.

I eventually fixed it by setting up my email from scratch, after removing it from my IOS device, but this time set it up using "Other" rather then "Gmail". I used the details from http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78799 (if this link does not appear in English, try searching for IMAP settings in GMail's help). After set-up I had to match sent, drafts and deleted folders with the ones on the server. I also had to close e-mail and settings apps, start e-mail, sync all, then go to settings again in order for the IMAP folders to appear in the advanced settings for matching.

Note, using IMAP like this may require an update of your GMail settings on how to delete vs. archive mail when using IMAP, or you may end up never deleting e-mail unintentionally.

I'm also facing the same problem on iPhone 4S iOS 5.0.1.

Aside from the double inboxes, I also can't get to read mails. Whenever I touch the mail I want to read, immediately the "forward" screen pops-up. So I can't open any of the attachments etc.

I don't have this "auto-forward" issue on yahoo or me.com accounts but only on gmail. I also don't have it on my iPad.
