Q: Can't access iTunes store - store page freezes

When i try to access the iTunes store it freezes half way through and looks like this

iTunes store freeze.jpg

I had the same problem last time iTunes updated and was able to get someone to fix it although they can't now remember what they did.

Things i've tried so far

deleting old preference files - all of them

uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes several times

full virus scan

checking proxy settings are correct

ran iTunes diagnotistics all came back as fine

rebuilt network information

deleted host files

deleted plug ins

I'm getting pretty desperate now, just can't work it out and all the online support now seems to be stuff i've done which didn't work.

Hope you can help - Anthony

This is so frustrating, I have tried the Winsock fix, the clean uninstall using Apples instructions but can't find the files that need deleting or installing because they don't exist.

Tried installing earlier versions, does not work as the new version corrupts the library, to which I have partially lost.

When you back up it keeps telling you to delete your old back up and resave, erm.........doesnot work and now no back up!

I have spent, hours and days on this!

I was talking with a friend from the Netherlands yesterday, guess what same problem he was saying that apple across there were indicating it's a problem with the new icloud software.

Come on Apple sort this mess out, your supposed to listen to the VOC of your customers!

I've come to the conclusion that, unfortunately, Apple doesn't care about this.  I Googled the problem, and found threads about this problem (or a very similar one) on many websites and forums, dating back to at least 2009.  Apparently the problem happened for others when upgrading to earlier versions of iTunes.  We were just lucky it didn't hit us then.  Either Apple is incapable of fixing the problem, or they don't care that we can't buy new content.  I guess they think they make enough money?!

Nothing worked for me until I got rid of Firefox and downloaded iTunes once more with Internet explorer.....I got rid of PC TOOLS virus checker and downloaded AVAST instead.. Got into iTunes store straight away and synced iPad to iOS 5.....I had tried everything else before...mine is a 64 bit system and I think the problem was the virus checker..I realy hope this helps...Chas

The netsh winsock reset command worked for me, but not for the same reasons.  I'm 13, but I'll have to tell my parents that this is a loophole through the Safe Eyes filtering driver.  ATTENTION ALL USERS OF SAFE EYES: When using the netsh winsock reset command, upon reboot, when confronted with the dialogue asking about the filtering driver (prompted by Safe Eyes), be sure to click IGNORE.  I'm glad that I was able to fix it without re-installing my operating system, but for the non experienced frustrated users, Apple is still obligated to monitor these posts and develop a fix for this problem.

Just to let you know, clicking the button that reinstalls the filtering driver yields the iTunes Store not loading again.  Until a fix is released and if you still want to buy music, you'll have to do without the protection for now.

Let me know how that works (if you're running Safe Eyes)

Like many of you on this forum, I fought with this on and off for a couple days and finally sorted it out.  Here's a summary:

Things that did not work for me (suggestions from Apple and those in this forum):

    1.  Flushing DNS  (ipconfig /flushdns)

    2.  Resetting TCP/IP (netsh winsock reset)

    3.  Uninstalling and re-installing every Apple app

             apple application support

             apple mobile device support

             apple software update

             Bonjour by Apple

             Quicktime by Apple

             iTunes by Apple

    What finally worked:  Uninstalling NetNanny

Thanks to the post from alexisfromflushing regarding BSecure that pointed me in the right direction.

<rant>  This is truly pathetic.  How can Apple release a product that generates huge revenue for them that conflicts with multiple parental controls programs?  And when they occur have no error messages?  I now have to choose between parental controls and iTunes.  If my wife wasn't such a fan, I'd be deleting iTunes.  Whoever is responsible for testing of this software should be shown the door.  </rant>

"When i try to access the iTunes store it freezes half way through and looks like this"

Same problem here. Win7, 32 bit.

    Here's what did NOT work:

    netsh winsock reset

    turn off antivirus protection

    reinstall Itunes multiple times.

    turn off firewall.

    Here's what will hopefully work:

Sit around and wait for the next Itunes update. (Though I think Itunes can't get worse, but then it does.)

I had to uninstall my ATT software I used for tethering, I've heard Verizon and Sprint software do the same.

OK, Alreet.......you are a FREAKIN' GENIUS!!!  Thank you, my friend, you have just assisted me to emerge from weeks of extreme annoyance and frustration.  The winsock reset thing worked a treat....BUT....(for those still struggling).....only after vapourising everything Apple from my PC, completely, and starting from scratch.  Thanks a million!  Cheers!

Couldn't get Itunes store to work after Resetting TCP/IP (netsh winsock reset) until I deleted the "itunesprefs.xml" file (delete both if two files) first and loaded Itunes.  Itunes asked for a new agreement and I accepted.  The Itunes store still didn't work so I reset the TCP/IP or "netsh winsock reset" in command prompt and restarted immediately. After restarting, the Itunes store worked for the first time after three months!   This may not work for you but worth a shot.

I was having the same problem.

Windows 7 64bit, CA Internet Security Suite Plus 2010,  Firefox 9.0.1, ITunes 10.5.3.3. Everything completely up to date!

I tried everything including turning off the firewall, uninstalling Adblocker Plus and a TCP reset. Nothing worked.

I got a hint from another forum that ITunes might conflict with NetNanny and other parental control software. I disabled the Parental Controls in CA Internet Security Suite and it worked like a charm!

    Hope that helps someone.

I wouldn't recommend CA Internet Security Suite to anyone. It conflicts with IE9 too, which I think is pretty pathetic.
