I am having the exact same problem and it's extremely frustrating.  I've lost several pictures of my daughter and husband that I'm afraid I'll never get back and some other important information.

I wish that Apple made this process alot easier.

I've tried several passwords to no avail.  Does anyone have any tips?  I'm stumped and getting pretty ******.  Almost ready to turn to a crackberry.  LOL

THIS IS SUCH BS!  I LOST THE BACKUP PASSWORD, TOO.   I LOST HUNDREDS OF PICTURES OF MY NEWBORN SON, UPDATING TO VER. 5.  IT SHOULD NOT BE THAT EASY TO LOSE IMPORTANT INFO LIKE THAT.  I'M VERY ****** AT STEVE JOBS FOR THIS.  F... APPLE.

This happens to me when I try to download apps sometimes.  Try checking what is being capitalized,or, if you have more than 1 account verified in your iTunes, make sure it shows your Apple ID and not the other account's.  Hope this helps(:

For computer & iPhone users: "backup, backup, backup" like the mantra of real estate folks: location, location ,location.

    Let 'er rip and...

    cheers

    Hi,

I have the same password problem with backup file but it got resolved successfully.

if password asked then you have to provide your apple id password not the unlock password of the iphone

The backup has taken with old apple id password may be.

If you have changed the password of apple id then this will create problem.

    Hope this little help.

    Thanks,

    Mohammed.

I just did the same thing last night, I tried to update my phone and all of my pictures are gone.  I went to the Apple store and they were able to recover most of my contacts and apps but no pictures.  I don't ever recall setting a password for this and if I did I would have used 1 of 3 that I always use.  Nothing is working.  I am so frustrated!

Don't fret. Some good news... I retrieved all my lost items.  I had recently changed my password and was having problems retrieving the back up file.  I, finally, thought to try my previous iTunes password and it worked!

    Hopefully, that helps.

It should be your iTunes password.  Try your previous one, if you can remember it.  That worked for me.

I went to the one in the Tacoma Mall in Washington.  I tried using my iTunes password, I don't ever remember having a previous password.  I believe the one I have now is the one and only password I have ever used for itunes.  I called right after it happened and they made me an appointment right away.  I didn't get any of my pics back though.

This has also happened to me, I didn't choose to encrypt the file or allocate the password! So where did the password selection come from? Nothing in this thread has worked. I have lost personal data which cannot be replaced. As for the person who suggested 'backup' 'back up' 'backup' - It is the back up file we are talking about why dont you "read the question" "read the question" "read the question"!!!!

There's now one answer to this - Dump the iphone and get an HTC! Thanks for nothing Apple.

If you clicked "backup" before restoring, then your data is still saved.  Start the process over and use the same password you used to sign in to this forum.

    Good luck...
