Apple TV stuck on 4.3 and won't update

Hello

When I try to update my Apple TV to 4.4.1, I get the message "Your Apple TV is up-to-date" even although it is only running 4.3.

I am currently located in the UK, although I am using a US iTunes account with a US-registered credit card. Could this be causing these issues? I'm very keen to use AirPlay mirroring!

Thanks

Barry

Thank you to everyone for the help! I managed to get it working with 4.4.1 and all the features around an hour ago.

If you follow these instructions on the second half of this page:

You need a mini-USB cable - it's the same cable you use to connect a Blackberry to a computer - some digital cameras and Jambox use it as well.

It's kind of ridiculous that you need to go through the process - hopefully Apple will sort this out soon!

Micro USB method... be sure to UNPLUG the POWER CORD on the ATV2 BEFORE you plug into iTunes - then ATV shows in Device list and "Restore" does the trick...

For some maybe. My ATV bricked while trying to apply the 4.4.1 update. I bought the Micro USB cable today and while iTunes recognizes the ATV just fine, clicking Restore only gives an "Error 1602" on every single try. This on both an iMac and a brand new MacBook Air.

Do you have ATV power plugged in? If you do, unplug power and just use the microUSB. Your computer should recognize the ATV and iTunes should see the device. Press restore and you're good to go!

Not necessarily. I'm running only MicroUSB- no power cable. iTunes recognizes the ATV no problem, but is unable to Restore it. Repeatedly getting Error 1602 on many attempts and several different Macs. This update absolutely toasted my ATV.

If for any reason iTunes error code ’1602′ comes up during your restore process then the key is not to have a power cable plugged in to the Apple TV. Disconnect your Apple TV power cable (while still keeping microUSB cable in) and try again.

To start over again you will need to put your Apple TV (2nd Gen black) into DFU mode for iTunes to recognise it again so you can restore it.

Putting Apple TV into DFU mode first:

-Open up iTunes first.

-Plug the microUSB into your Apple TV.

-Hold down the ‘Menu + Down arrow button’ together for 6 seconds to reboot the Apple TV.

-Once your Apple TV reboots immediately hold down ‘Menu + Play buttons’ together until a message appears in iTunes telling you an Apple TV in recovery mode has been detected.

It's the power cord. I did the same thing - OVER & OVER - got the same error 1602 - switched USB ports - switched wires.... pulled out my hair... then I READ the entire article... unplugged the power cord - didn't realize that the ATV can be powered by the USB... and im done.

Not the case here. I had read everything here first and I knew NOT to plug in the power cable, so I never did. Micro-USB only. Did the DFU and attempted Restore about a dozen times and 1602 errors every time. On both an iMac and a brand new MacBook Air. I'm taking it back to Apple today.

Despite all the warnings I forgot to unplug the power cable. Got there eventually. I also was about to go out and buy a mini USB cable but realised I had a couple kicking around from camera blackberry etc purchases. Check your junk cables before going out to buy one! Mirroring working perfectly with BBC iplayer and itv player - doesn't work with my lovefilm account - grrr!
