I too am having this issue. Phone is 1 day old and I noticed the issue last night and again today at work. Additionally a 3rd time this evening. 32gb iPhone. Friggan ridiculous and unacceptable. We expect only the best quality from apple. Between the issues my friend is having with her 4 and my 4s right out of the box, I might as well have purchased a Chinese knock off. Irritated.

I bought my new I-phone 4s on the 16/10/2011, it was up and running on the 18/10/2011. It first switched itself off on the 20/10/2011 and then again today the 25/10/2011. Yes I had battery. I called Apple on George street in Sydney and spoke with a lady named Meg. She advised me this should not be happening. She confirmed it was a Hardware Issue and not a Software Issue. She has suggested to do a reset. But if this doesn't work then she advised I could get it replaced as Apple give a 1 year warranty on the I-phone 4s. I hope this helps.

Crikey. It just happened again!. That makes 4 times today. Was browsing the app store lookin at all the fancy pants apps I should buy. Hit the top button and walked into the other room and brushed my teeth. Sure enough I couldn't turn it back on even by clicking the home or top buttons. This time it wouldn't start back up for 20mins. I even tried plugging it in, nothing...then finally tried the home button + top button and it started up.

Thnx for the response but after spending 500$ on all this hype I'm pretty ******. I'm better off with my slow, sluggish, need to restart all the time 3G. At least it's predictable. Grrrr. They better take care of me.

Same here with me, except my phone overheats prior to powering off and staying off until it cools. I'm waiting on the phone now to speak to a rep. Best deal is to turn it in and ask for a new one. Unlike many this phone is my life line and I need to have a working one at all times not this overheating crap. Paid way to much for this to be happening!

issue resolved for me."...within 30 days, no hassles". Just t

ell them what's happening. My rep was nice enough to see if they had any stock and I was lucky so they replaced the phone on the spot. No hassles except migrating all the data but that's a whole other story;) thanks for the quality customer service Apple. New phone - proper!

Many times apple will tell you to try a restore if they believe its software related. You can lose data this way if not careful about what and how youve backed up. No details here other than ive lost lots of data, but im a noob to itunes and its particular ways. If its within 30days they have a customer service policy.

Many are saying the shutting off is a hardware related issue and apple made the same assumption at the store when I brought it back without me telling them more than "it shut off and restarted 4 times today and didnt want to turn back on" So this is what I recommend, bring it in tell them your tale of woes.

I'm having the same problem. I got a 4s the day it came out, and it shut down on me a few times. So i returned it, got a new one, and this one has been doing it even more often. Black 4s 64 gig. Does restarting with the Home Button and the Top button have any negative effect on the phone? I feel like doing it once every couple days may not be good.
