Siri doesn't know my home address

Solution.

Since the change from google maps to apple maps. It is now necessary to go to your details in contacts, select your home address, maps appear now select by tapping on a road next to your home, a new pin appears saying dropped pin, click the arrow then add to contacts, add to existing, select yourself, then edit, delete the old home address then change the new one to read home. Do for other stored addresses. Works just fine now with siri

What worked for me was making sure that the street name in my contacts was exactly the same as it is in Apple maps. For example if my address is Riveredge Court in my contacts, but Apple maps shows the street as River Edge Ct I needed to change my home contact to River Edge Ct

Doesn't work for me. Adding the postcode always makes it fail.

There are several work-arounds posted on these forums which suggest formatting the address in a certain way etc. but none are really acceptable if they mean you need to store you home address on your primary address card in a format other than how you would normally write it down.

I still find it astounding that we can't simply point to a location on a map and use the gps coordinates for the Siri geofencing. Surely that's all it does internally so it makes no sense that it has to have all these problems with address lookups which don't work.

I've tried dropping a pin right on top of the school where I work and then assigning that to the 'work' address on my contact card. Problem is, if I then click on that address and it goes to the maps it points to the nearest house about 100 meters away and the location reminders don't work.

Over a year now and it still just plain doesn't work.

This simply still does not work in the UK.

I have wrestled with it, and wasted nearly 2 hours of my life (more fool me...).

Sometimes it gets it, sometimes even if I drop the pin on Apple Maps it doesnt like it. I live on Kings Avenue, in Ely, UK. If I drop the pin on Apple Maps it enters the address as 'King's Avenue' with an apostrophe. Siri cannot find it. If I edit it so it doesn's have the apostrophe it finds it correctly. Once. The next time I ask it to 'take me home' it pulls up a route to 'Ings Avenue' in Scotland!! With no change to the address! And then the next time siri doesn't recognise it at all again! I dont know what ios is doing in the background but it is not simply using the address, it is not simply using GPS coordintates - it seems to be doing some kind of random attempted translation of the address through the medium of psychic powers.

Incidently, every one of the addresses I have entered is correctly recognised and is in the correct place in Maps. Apple maps.

I simply do not know which bufoon coded this section of the maps/siri/address finding integration - but I think my 1 year old could have done a better job! As for the apple 'genius' bar. Ha. Don't make me urinate my trousers. I believe I hear the faint rustle of Steve turning in his grave.....

In the case of my work address I have to leave off the last three characters of my postcode. For my home address I have to use an extra address line "Ealing" rather than just "London".

Basically using the pin drop technique to obtain the address that Apple maps can decipher and editing around that as much as it lets you.

It's yet another Apple maps issue.

As far as I'm concerned the only acceptable solution would be to have the ability to add a dropped pin as a specific GPS location attached to the address.

Any 'solution' which involved frigging the address of your own contact details is hardly acceptable, especially given that it's your primary contact details which you may need to send someone as a vcard etc.

My address in my contact card is how I'd write it on an envelope, and hasn't changed in 40 years. Having to leave off bits of the postcode, or change the format of the street name or any other 'bodge' is totally unnaceptable..

Though Apple maps pretty much total lack of information is more of a concern to me. In the meantime I'm using the Waze apps for driving navigation with excellent results.

I dont think its a maps issue. Maps always finds the correct address in a search, its Siri (which is still Beta) that is incapable of performing properly after how many years? No wonder they have put someone new in charge of it.

It's definitely a maps issue, you don't need to be using Siri for it to fail.

I've tried to locate many of the addresses in my contacts and the vast majority of them fail horribly.

I've tried dropping pins in maps and saving those locations to contacts entries, again hopeless as it just stores a vague range like "1-30 Some Road, anytown". Certainly nothing like an address you could actually find or post a letter to.

Even worse, when you then click on that address again in contacts it doesn't actualy find the same location that you dropped the pin on in the first place.

Seriously, how hard is it to just remember the actual GPS position of the pin and store that? The mind boggles.

I had the same problem and finally found a solution, I hope this works for everybody else.

I dropped a pin in maps on the street right outside my house that showed up as my address except the city was different. My city came up as "Woodside", which I've never seen before. This is a loose term for the area I live in, but I've never seen it used as an official address in any form ever before.

From the pin dropdown menu, I added the address to my personal contact card and made it my home address which finally worked.

So lets get this right, you just said the address that came up was:

- a different city

- which you've never seen before

- a 'loose term for the area you live in'

- never used as an official address in any form

And you consider the fact you have to change your primary address to that on your own contact details an acceptable solution.

This is the same for me, I have to remove the last 2 letters from any postcodes I want Siri to find. Very poor.

I was having the same problem and now what worked for me was removing the DASH in the adddress. So I used to have it as 1234-56A Ave, but to get it to work finally after months of it not working I changed it to 1234 56A Ave
