iOS5 Mail app not showing the mail count properly

It used to be just fine that the Mail app would automatically do its magic behind the schene and would display the unread emails. But after upgrading to iOS5 it looks like that's broken. The Mail app won't fetch any new mails automatically; I have to launch it to go fetch which is kind of weird. I don't know if I have messed up anything or is it something others are noticing as well. Don't know if having iCloud on the top of the email list has anything to do with it. Appreciated your help.
