iOS 5 Messages bug in group text

Since upgrading to iOS 5, I can no longer successfully send a group message when at least one device is an iPhone/iPad etc. and at least one device is NOT an iPhone/iPad etc. When I try it, the non-iPhone devices receive a blank message. By this I don't mean that they don't receive anything but that the non-iPhone devices receive a message and it is blank.

This happens even though it shows on my iPhone that the message was sent out as a text message and not an iMessage. I reported this to AppleCare but they seemed to be confused that this is how it should be. It would seem to me that the Messages app should be smart enough to know if at least one of the recipients is not an Apple device based on the contact info category and if so, it should send the message out as a text message.

We are having the same issues...use to send out group text quite a bit but since ios5, unable now.

i just tried to recreate this with my iphone 4S and send a group message to an iphone ios 5 and also an android. the test message got through alright.

After running a few more tests I found a seemingly anti-intuitive work around.

If, in Settings for Messages under SMS/MMS, I turn off Group Messaging, the messages go through too all devices regardless of type. The problem occurred when Group Messaging was on.

So I am now confused about what Group Messaging in SMS/MMS means if I am able to send a group message successfully when this is off but not when it is on.

group messaging is kind of a tricky setting. i dont really know why anyone would want to us it. but in any case, its when u want to have a group chat with someone. u text lets say 4 people, and when one replies, they reply to all. its kinda stupid, i dont see a situation when one would use this setting.

I use group text app for group messaging as I coach youth sports teams. This is how I communicate. Since updating I cannot do this. The iMessaging system totally has the messaging system confused and it would send iMessages even the only a few people were on apple devices. No one else gets the texts.

When I turn iMessaging off the group text app simply won't send anything.

I Just set my group messaging to off and now it seems to be working fine. So weird.
