I dont see imessage on my macbook pro?

I dont see the imessage app on my macbook pro? Yes I am a newb but I cannot seem to find where this app is? is there a software update I am missing?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.1)

iMessage is an iOS app, not a Mac OS X one.

Yes you can send with messages, but not to the same apple id that you have on the mac (you can't send messages from your account to your account). Massages is working just fine.
