I upgraded my wife's iPhone 3GS to iOS5; now the "plus" sign is missing under CONTACTS. I've tried to RESTORE; tried just about everything.

She can add a number/contact after she's called it - but not from the CONTACTS App.

    This is happening to me too, and its really frustrating. Ever since I got the 4S on friday. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

    Ok, after 4 frustrating days I figured it out I think.  I deleted the email accounts thats were linked to the phone. Then I went to contacts and the plus sign was there.  I then re-added the email accounts and the plus sign was still there.  So I think that will work for you too.  If you need anymore help let me.

    I had same problem. Seany527 solution just worked fine for me as well.

    An annoying bug I hope that will be solved soon by Apple.

    I had the same problem and this worked for me.

     

    Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > iCloud > Contacts and then switch it to "On" It will ask you to "Merge" your contacts with iCloud and once you click "Merge" you should be able to go back to your Contacts app/address book and the "+" and "Edit" buttons should be there.

     

     

     

    This will resolve the issue

    Merging with iCloud worked for me both with this problem in contacts and then the same problem in iCal.

     

    Now I'm wondering whether to turn iCloud off to see what will happen. Maybe I'll stick with it while the going is good.

    When I upgraded my iPhone to iOS5 Apple did not warn me that as a consequence I would be forced to upgrade my Mac to Lion - otherwise none of my calenders, mail and contacts would synch anymore. My phone would therefore be  - redundant! After the phone was upgraded, all of my apps were gone. I had to plug it into iTunes and then run the sequence again, just as though I had never done it the first time. The apps were restored. Not impressive, though - why didn't the apps just restore when I ran the upgrade the first time? Confusing or what?!

    When I moved from Mobile Me to Cloud - so that my computers and devices could actually synch again - I again had to run the whole process twice. Now I have dual sets of accounts, one for Mobile Me "Cloud" and one for "Cloud Cloud". *** is that about... At this moment Mail on my laptop and my desktop has frozen while upgrading the data base. But that's for another thread... Not cool. Yes, I'm pretty ****** off that my time is being wasted like this.

    Also I notice that Apple in their supreme wisdom are now blocking the use of the three letter abbreviation "W T F" in case anyone is deeply offended by those three letters. So what the **** Apple?!!

    As other users have also discovered, the missing "+" and "Edit" from contacts can also be restored by turning on iCloud for contacts. We have two iPhones and 1 ipad and my wife does NOT want to merge our contacts into one happy family of 3 devices. I appreciate and understand that she wants to keep her contact list different for her phone. I don't understand why apple would cripple the contacts (no edit or "+") unless iCloud is selected. This looks like a bug to me. I'll try the suggested email delete/restore solution until a fix is offered.

    I'm rather curious, why don't you and your wife just set up separate icloud accounts?

    Excellent question... We DO like to sync photo stream, reminders, and email. Separate iCloud accounts would take that away. It seems like a design flaw when iCloud let's users choose which main applications should participate while penalizing those that don't. Your solution might help others with our issue though. Thanks for the response!

    Way to go! Perfect solution... problem solved with no issues on icloud photostream sharing.
