Do I need a case for my iPhone 4?

I have spent so much money from the cheapest case all the way to the most expensive but still unsatisfied that it truly hides the phone entirely, nearly unrecognizable, or unable to freely use it's aux port or docking features or gets in the way between my fingers and screen. Do I really need a case? Has it been engineered to uphold minimal drops or let downs? I don't care much for scratches because screen protectors I don't mind and a bumper may be optional but the full fledged, military grade cases needed? I spent and returned so many cases, I'd like to know before I returned yet another case.

iPhone 4, iOS 5, White/Verizon

Good question bro, I was asking myself the same question when I got mine. I decided to pick up an excellent case for myself that seems to protect pretty good with a minimalist type of vibe (very thin, w/o getting in my way).

Thanks for your reply. I just got the lifeproof case and everything about the iPhone is no longer accessible. The touch screen is terrible, I have to screw on an adapter if I want to listen to music and well it looks like a large droid. I don't put my keys in my pocket with my phone, my phone resides in my purse. So would case work that I put it in for storage? Similar to the Michael kors product apple sells in there accessory store?

I have different cases I use for different times. I hate the feel of the phone with no case. Way to slippery for me.

I tried the LifeProof case and really wanted to like it, but I did not. I hated the way it made the screen feel.

I use a Mareware Accent case when out 90% of the time. It adds little to the size. Feels good in my hands, and covers the screen.

When at home, I just have it in a cheap silicone case.

When I Bicycle, and use the GPS (which ***** battery), I have it in a PhoneSuite elite case that gives me incredible battery life. Costco has these on sale.

I too had the same dilema after getting my 4s. A device this beautifully designed should not be hidden. I've opted for the Zagg Invisible Shield which protects both sides of the device from scratches and then went with a Scosche bumper. I've have to say that the Zagg is by far the best screen protection I've owned. Doesn't smudge nearly as bad as others and is very durable.

I think much of your choice depends on your use of the phone. If I were taking my phone outdoors and doing more rigorous activity, I'd think about a more protective case.

It comes down to your personal needs. If you like hiking, have heavy duty work, etc. you may want to look into a built case like the Otterbox Defender or the Griffin Survivor.

If you are a careful one, you probably don't need a case. I use cases sparingly, and they're light like the Apple Bumper and the Otterbox Commuter. I'm thinking about upgrading to an Incipio Stowaway case.

If you're on the fence, buy a cheap case and see how you like it.

One thing I should stress is to take the phone out of the case every few days and clean it. If the phone is left in a case too long, you can scratch it since dirt and debris can get inside cases easily.
