Q: iPhone 4S drops 3G, have to restart phone to get it back

I'm using my iPhone 4S on the O2 (UK) network. I've noticed so far, twice that the iPhone 4S does not show any 3G (or edge even) connection at times. When I restart the phone it picks up a 3G connection immediately.

Anyone faced this issue? I'm not sure if its a carrier issue or something wrong with my hardware?

I´ve now got a new micro SIM to see if it helps (I´ve turned SIM pin off as with earlier SIM card).

I´m eager to see how long it will take until it looses all connection, and needs a restart to work again.

Hopefully nothing critical happens to my friends or family and they really needs to get in touch with me while my phone´s not working properly...

Apple needs to get out 5.1 betas more rapidly to developers, and hopefully we endusers can have an iPhone 4S working properly before Christmas!

i have replaced a new iphone 4S and also a new microSIM... it is still the same... just not as frequent... so perhaps it's a good sign (for the time being...)

hopefully iOS 5.1 can resolve this issue and not create more problems...

Ok, now thats somewhat a good news ... First i thought that it was few faulty iphone 4s having this problem

.... So a new iOS update from apple will definatley solve the issue hope apple looks after this and releases a update to solve this current problem .

Now that developers got the iOS 5.1 beta 2 update, I really hope they ´ve got things sorted out and release the official update before Christmas... "For Christmas I wish for... a working iPhone 4S"!

Ok, now I'm fed up with this BS device!

All of a sudden I can't send or receive SMS, and a few hours ago, it stated: Activation Required.

That meant I could not use the device at all, and when I got home I plugged it to my Mac and iTunes, I had to do a restore ( which I will call a soft restore, since it didn't take very long to do, and all it did was wipe my music library on the phone; good).

I'm going to return this if they don't give me an OTA update right now. Gonna call Apple tomorrow!

BTW, my phone is factory unlocked and still showed the name of the phone operator when I got the message on screen.

I just want it to freaking work!!!

I have to moderate my critisism againt the device last week; it was operater related and solved with them.

On saturday I installed the latest modified iOS 5.01 for iPhone 4S.

No dropped connections (No service) and restarts needed so far. Fingers crossed!

    Shouldn´t have said that!

While going to the city centre with seemingly good connection, switching between 3G and Edge, I tried to surf a webpage with 3G in the menu... Could not access internet!

At one point it switched to E but internet not working; no net apps accessing internet!

Had to do a reboot, then it worked again! Damned update!

This reply doesn't solve anything. How was this selected as the "correct answer"?

I have been experiencing the same problem in Belgium - if I'm on wifi for awhile I notice sometimes that I have no data network connection (3G or E) and I have to restart my phone to get it to work. I disabled the SIM pin, hopefully that will help and hopefully Apple will fix this in the next update. It sounds like getting a new handset hasn't helped other people.

I believe that I have found a temporary solution for the "Invalid Sim/No Sim Card Installed" issue on the iPhone 4S. The beta 3 of iOS 5.1 completely restored my iPhone's functionality. No drops, no "No SIM" messages.

For those who are not afraid, you can install the beta firmware even if you do not have developer account with Apple. You should Google and download "iPhone4,1_5.1_9B5141a.ipsw" or go here: http://www.multiupload.com/UN5F70GHG0, and then go to iTunes, hold shift and then press Update (not Restore!) and select the downloaded firmware.

After this is done your iPhone will be updated to the iOS 5.1 beta 3, iPhone will remain registered, all installed applications will remain untouched.

Make sure to backup before this operation. Also, you can downgrade back to iOS 5.0.1.

Same problem here - on Vodafone in UK, have to keep going to Airplane mode and out to get my 3G back.  Its flippin annoying.  Can someone explain how on earth jono87's msg in this thread ... "Have you found a solution yet? cheers"... constitutes a correct answer???? I think not.
