Q: iPhone 4S drops 3G, have to restart phone to get it back

I'm using my iPhone 4S on the O2 (UK) network. I've noticed so far, twice that the iPhone 4S does not show any 3G (or edge even) connection at times. When I restart the phone it picks up a 3G connection immediately.

Anyone faced this issue? I'm not sure if its a carrier issue or something wrong with my hardware?

I had the sams issue, iphone 4S 64GB black on the 3 network in the UK. If I lost the signal e.g. the London underground, when I reached topside, the signal would not come back unless I switched phone off and then on again. Took phone back to apple who switched it for a new handset, now works fine. I believe it's a software bug. Hopefully Apple will fix this in the next update however we need to make noise to make this a priority. Or it could become the antennagate for the 4S.

Have you tried to turn off SIM PIN?

I did but made no difference. Also this increases Security risks so its not a viable solution.

Same problem but its obviously a software bug the iphone cant decide wich antenna to use and it bugs out i have 2 4S and they do the same thing just be patient and wait apple to update to 5.1 bcz its probably related to battery issue too... I'm pretty sure its software related

I have had this issue going as well. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one experiencing this problem.

Hi All I had the same issue. I brought my iphone 4s back to an apple retail store where i purchased it. they replaced it and viola - my phone stayed on 3G always... live in usa central region

it is the iphone 4s not the software program... it was stuck on E which is the 2g network always...

after replacing my iphone 4s with a different one - 3g always

    thanks

I forgot to mention my carrier is at&t and they told me if I had an iphone 4 prior and updated to iphone 4s they needed to provision my iphone 4s for their new network.. when they did this my 3g speeds increased tremendously..  so if you have at&t I would suggest you call them and see if your iphone 4s is provisioned for the new network speeds.

Mine looses signal when I run any location aware apps like google maps. Ex.. I start google maps and input an adress and it finds it, but after a couple of seconds my phone drops 3G signal and I get a searching for signal message. If I leave the app running in the background and try to make a call my phone call drops. The only thing I can do is disable location services.

I think my iPhone 4S was a DOA device and  I am waiting for a new replacement iPhone 4S this week. There was a possible battery problem, too.

As a test, I put the sim lock back on.  After literally a few minutes it refused to send text messages and then said No Service.. so I took it off again and now works perfectly again....  It is bizarre that something so silly can make such a difference to the phone...

Apple are sending me a replacement so I really hope the same thing doesn't happen. Especially as I have to refit both front and rear Iphone protection films... and bumper!

I have the same problem here in Kuwait with the zain carrier.

People who have the regular IPHONE4 have 3G all the time and though I'm right next to them

I only have edge. The same problem has been reported at many places. Seems like apple needs to

Update to 5.0.1 ASAP. This never happened when Jobs was around.
