Ipod touch 2g unable to restore

My ipod touch 2g suddenly went dead after syncing with my itunes and im unable to get it past the "preparing for restore" stage in itunes and i keep getting error 1646 (i've checked and i cant find anything on this error) this is what i have done:

1) force it into dfu mode

2) tried to restore but cant get pass "preparing for restore" stage

3) keeps getting error 1646

Itunes wont recognize my ipod touch and im getting totally no response from it.

Anyone has any idea on what to do?

well..... i have something but im unsure if it will work:

1. open itunes, plug in ipod

2. hold power switch until ipod asks to switch off

3. while still holding power button, hold menu and wait for the apple icon to re apear

(i know, im talking to you as if you were a newb, i know your thinking "well duh, recovery mode, i know that, you derp" but ive had too-a-many encounters with "false" recovery modes,)(the battery icon should not be visable)

4. open device manager (start>right click computer>manage>device manager)

5. go to:

-Universal Serial Bus Controlers

-Cameras

-Moble Devices

-or anywhere else you think that ipod driver may exist

6. uninstall that driver

7.disconect then reconect ipod

8.ignore all messages and look for that driver again

9.update:

1.right-click and update driver software

2.select- Browse My Computer for Update Software

3.Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer

4.Have Disk

5.select "browse"

6.go to C:/program files/Common files/Apple/Moble Device Support/drivers/....and windows will select the driver you need

10.select one of the drivers you think best fits the situation,i.e. "iboot"

if this doesnt work, or if you've already tried this, then im sorry for wasting your time

good luck
