Can't Import .mov files into itunes 10.5 on mac ox s 10.7.2

Hi,

So I have a Macbook pro with Mac OS X Lion and itunes 10.5, I also have a couple of .MOV video files which I would like to import into itunes so I can play it on my iPhone 4, but when I add the video files it doesn't appear in my itunes library. The annoying thing is it should import the .MOV videos?? Right?? The files open and play with Quicktime player on my Macbook and when I add the same .MOV files to itunes 10.5 on my Windows 7 machine, no problems occur but I cant sync the video to my iPhone 4 from that machine as my iPhone 4 only sync to my Macbook pro!!

Any ideas out there or people with the same problem??

I just found out I can't import .mov into iTunes either. I've always been able to before now. I've added .mov files every month for 2+ years, but this is my first try since upgrading to Lion and all of the recent updates. Also, when I drag the file to iTunes, the green plus sign is there as if it's going to work, but nothing imports. Frustrating! I hope there's a fix soon b/c otherwise I can't get these files onto my iPad.

Here's what I did. (August 2011 Macbook Pro, 13.3, running Lion, Quicktime and Itunes both as updated as possible at this point (Jan 27 2012)).

I opened the MOV in Quicktime. Under the share tab in the menu bar I clicked Itunes, then you pick your format (Iphone/Ipod, Ipad/Iphone/apple tv, or mac/pc) then it converts it to be itunes readable.

Best of luck.

MOV is a container format which may contain all kinds of codec, while iTunes only import MOV whose video codec is DV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, or AIC.

Even if the MOV meet the above requirement and supported and playable in iTunes, it will still fail to sync to iPod/iPad/iPhone/Apple TV if the MOV video does not fit the specification like resolution, bit rate, aspect ratio, size, and audio codec of the iPod/iPad/iPhone/Apple TV.

In order to successfully import MOV to iTunes as well as sync MOV to Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, iPad, we have better convert the MOV video to a more compatible video format.
