Can't upgrade to iOS 5 - Error 1403

Hi guys. I'm fairly new to the Apple forums, so please bear with me.

Yesterday I wanted to upgrade the iOS 4.3.5 from my iPhone to iOS 5. When I plugged my iPhone in my computer, the iTunes notice came up that there was new content for my iPhone to be downloaded. I accepted. Then a window popped up that I had to back up every piece of media on my iPhone, etcetcetc. Did that, and pressed accept. Then iTunes started downloading the iPhone Software Update, which was about 775MB big. However, when it finished, it said something along the lines of 'Processing the downloaded software'. Then, an error message popped up, saying that the downloaded software got damaged during the download, and that I had to try redownloading the software update (Error code 1403, see screenshot for more information)

Any suggestions as to what to do?

Thanks in advance!

Cisko

Nevermind, it's fixed. Follow the tutorial by Apple on how to uninstall and reinstall iTunes, and the update will automatically redownload when you replug your iPhone in the computer after reinstallation.

Hey guys,

didn't work for me and couldn't as i'm on a macbook pro.

apple states that it's not needed on their plattform to delete and reinstall. and deleting itunes on mac is not really possible anyway (it is actually but just with third party software). when i did it, it didn't help and the problem stayed.

so after trying several other tips from the net i was really annoyed and changed to win 7 (that i have on my mac too) ... and guess what ... first attempt to update with the itunes there was successful ... i couldn't belive it!

then changed back to mac and got the backup back on the phone ... didn't really backup all my folders i've created, so took me some time to recreate. but finally ios 5 is on the 3gs and i'm happy ;-) thanks to (didn't think i'd ever say that): microsoft ...

well might be just a coincidence ... who knows ... 😉
