How to recover data from iPhone backup files WITHOUT the info.plist, status.plist, manifest.plist, manifest.mbdb, and manifest.mbdx files?

I have iTunes 10.5 and Mac OS X version 10.6.8.

I would like to restore my iPhone from backup.

iTunes detects all my backups except one, which happens to be the backup I want.

I looked in the backup directory (~/library/application support/mobilesync/backup) and IT IS THERE along with the other backups. HOWEVER, unlike the other backups, it's missing five files: info.plist, status.plist, manifest.plist, manifest.mbdb, and manifest.mbdx.

I have tried applications that can extract data, like the free iPhone Backup Extractor for example, but they work only if I have the five files.

Is there a way to recover data without the five files?

Thaks a lot, Peppy!

It works great...you should have to replace the

missing five files: info.plist, status.plist, manifest.plist, manifest.mbdb, and manifest.mbdx. Open the info.plist and replace the date....and backup extractor open the backup and aou can save your photos! But if your old backup has 100 Photos, and the new one got only 50,Backupextractor only open the 50...! Its not bad...take more pics with your iphone, and when you got 100 then replace the files again....it works great! Thak you!

Sorry 4 my Bad english!

Today I was playing with a backup with the same issue.

I recovered almost all pictures! What did I see when I was checking the files in the backup:

- Files in the backup do not have an extension.

- Filenames are very long

What I found out was that when I was changing a file with "b720d84892451b1b845ffe5076a4cb34e923aa5d" to "b720d84892451b1b845ffe5076a4cb34e923aa5d.jpg", the picture could be opened.

I downloaded TrID and TrIDDefs from http://mark0.net/

I copied all files from all directories of the backup to a single directory C:\TEMP

I copied TrID, as also the TrIDDefs in the same directory with the 1000s of files.

Opened command prompt CMD and went to C:\TEMP

Typed TrID * -ce

This small program is changing file extensions for all files.

Pictures will be .jpg, movies .3gg, etc. etc.

Since I was only interested in the pictures I was glad to have them back. But then they are called: b720d84892451b1b845ffe5076a4cb34e923aa5d.jpg

Then I downloaded Namexif via http://www.digicamsoft.com/softnamexif.html

With this program it is possible to rename all jpg foto's to a date as stored in the EXIF data of the pictures.

Now all pictures with EXIF data (self made pictures) are now named like "2017-03-23 22h51m22.jpg"

This is good enough for me. I have my pictures back. That was the main goal.

Hopefully this also helps for you!

I guess the thread didnt help, if you are asking...

Btw, photos is one of the things I havent recovered yet. And I think in my case they were not in the backup, but this is either because photos are not stored there, or because I have overwrited the backup somehow.

I am a PC user and in my case the backup extractor couldnt read the backup either, because these files were missing. I simply copied these files from another backup (I have the latest iTunes 10 and iOs 5, and have multiple backups now, before the update I had only 1 backup - I think I was with iTunes 9 or earlier and definitely iOs4) in the folder of the corrupted backup (you have the backup location for PC in my thread linked above).

The second step is to open each of these 4 files, but I think the key file is the info.plist and maybe the manifest.plist with Notes and Find (ctrl+f) and replace the folder's name and eventual date/time with the one these files are now - the corrupted backup folder. I think the date and time were contained actually in the folder's name. You may Find in Notes the folder's name by looking for the year of the backup you have copied from the .plist files.

Now, the backup extractor program should be able to read the corrupted backup.

Hopes this helps.
